I think I may have developed an allergy to a metal used in my razor... I get large red patches in my underarms that itch, burn and ooze and are very painful. Does anyone else experience this?

I get a dry patch on one underarm from the spandex in certain bras and tank tops. You can develop allergies and the allergies can be limited to only certain parts of your body. My grandpa was a paramedic and became allergic to iodine and latex after constant exposure. Also, have you considered an allergy to your deodorant?

I've switched deodorants a couple times since this started, and I'm pretty much always using different shaving creams. It just keeps getting worse.

Can you afford wax strips to do your underarms? I havent had that hsppen but if you are reacting that way I'd stop or limit shaving there to once a week.

I don't know if that'll help. Lol. I hope you find out the cause of it soon!

Ouch, is this the first time this has happened? I'd give your underarms a break for a little bit and avoid deodorant. Apply a bit of corn starch or a light dusting of baby powder to control the friction and sweat and avoid any further irritation. If anything is open you can apply a bit of polysporin but for now just use something refreshing and soothing such as aloe or rose bud salve. I personally wouldn't risk it again with razors, you should definitely consider waxing. You will have to grow your hair out for a few weeks but that should be beneficial to letting your reaction clear up. If you're getting it waxed get it done at a proper salon so that they properly prep your skin and properly rip the strips off of course, you don't want your underarms to be even more sensitive. I wouldn't recommend waxing them yourself at all, if done improperly it can cause lifting, ingrown hairs and breakouts

It started happening in the fall, so I stopped shaving for the winter because I thought it was just from shaving too much. But it started again when I started shaving and keeps getting worse. I've already been shaving only once a week, it's not really helping.

Are you using new razors each time you shave? , I made the mistake to shave with a used razor (by me ofcourse) & it gave me a horrible rash that wouldnt go away for months until,
it might sound gross but try not to shave for a week or two , or if you can a little bit longer, youl see a MAJOR difference.

You need to stop shaving all together until your skin recooperates.. You're only harming it more.

It sucks because that's the one place I actually care about shaving, anywhere else I would be fine stopping. Guess it's time to grow it out and dye it purple haha.

Margu...your razor could possibly contain nickel and you're just experiencing contact dermatitis because of it.

I've considered that that might be the case, it was never a problem for me before (I've been buying the same blades almost as long as I've been shaving) but I have had a little more trouble with earrings recently as well. It doesn't happen anywhere else that I shave.
