So I've been trying for a few months to get my basic eyeshadow application down, but I don't seem to be able to. How do you girls do yours? I generally reach for neutral colours so pictures are welcomed if you can!
How is it best applied? I do have an eye primer but I can never get the lightest shades to show up how I want them to; should I be applying on bare skin (no foundation) Also, I feel like my crease is super low so it makes it hard for me to figure out where to put my shadow to even enhance my eyes.
Any help would be super appreciated :) thanks so much in advance. 💜

Usually I only put foundation on my lids if I won't be wearing any eyeshadow. When I do wear eyeshadow I avoid foundation on my lids, I use Too Faces Shadow insurance in the original shade, and if I have trouble making a color show I'll put a white base over my primer and before my eyeshadow. Because I just use it as a base, I use a cheap fat eye pencil from Jordana in the color pearl. That usually makes my colors more vibrant. As for your crease, I have the same issue, so what I do is that I put my crease color a little higher than my actual crease and in a darker shade so it looks a little deeper. I hope I was able to help a bit!

I usually sweep a lightish neutral color over the lid, dark brown in the crease, and a highlight in the inner corner.
I would keep using the eye primer if I were you. Do you have a picture of your eye/eye shape?

There are a few ways I love doing my eyeshadow :) for every single look, I start out with a matte medium brown transition shade in the crease. Just an example of something basic, would be the simple light to dark gradient: lightest color on your inner corner, moving into a darker color on your outer corner. You can do this with just 2 shades (for example, a champagne and a dark brown). If you're having trouble getting lighter shades to show up, you can definitely try applying them wet. So just dampen your brush before applying :) If you have a lower crease, I'd try blending the shadows slightly higher than you usually do to give the illusion of a higher crease. Let me know if you want more examples or anything like that :)

You girls are so helpful, thank you!
@ Molly, I've got the two shade part down I just always feel like it doesn't look right, like my placement is off and it bothers me cause I have so many eyeshadows laying around that I love but just don't use haha, and to add to that it doesn't come out half as decent as I always think it will. I hope that makes sense lol!

Your lashes are gorgeous! But yeah, keep using the primer. I used to buy the Urban Decay primer because it was the only one that worked but I recently tried the Wet n Wild brand and it works just as well :) A good eye pencil to use on top of the primer and under the eye shadow is one by NYX in the color Milk. It's a nice matte white. I go over the lid with a light to medium shade then a few shades darker in the crease and a little above the crease and then finish with a dab on a dark shadow in the corner. Then blend!

If you can't get lightest shade to show, try wetting your brush with water, mac fix + or eye drops then apply the eyeshadow to your lids. you can also use a white base over your primer like the nyx jumbo pencil in milk.
to enhance your eyes, apply the crease colour a little higher so that way your eyes look bigger and more defined.

Your eyes are beautiful! I'm not just saying that- they really are. Only going by the picture, they look like they may be deep set, which could be why you're having issues with your crease. (Mine are deep set). Try watching YT videos or, when I first started I went to an app called "77 Looks", it's nothing but video tutorials. I would pick the ones for "eyes", then just scroll down and pick the ones that seemed nice. I gained a few go-to looks that way. And of course like I said, YT is your friend, too. 😊

Also remember this basic rule I didn't know before academy. Never let your eyeshadow go past the invisible line from the corner of your outer lashes to the tail of your eyebrow. I felt silly for not knowing that but I didn't. You'll find your applications look so much better and your eye looks lifted if you keep your product inside that space

Oh wow, thank you ladies so much! If it isn't super humid today I might try my hand at some practice! This was all so helpful!
@ Jacqueline, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that! It's super helpful, always have to screenshot your responses haha! ;)
