I know that both straightening and blow drying damages your hair in the long run even if you us heat protection and things like that. But I was wondering out of those two options whoch one is the lest damaging when it comes to straightening your hair. Straightening with a flat iron (very high quality one) or blow drying it straight with a high quality blow dryer? Also what are your favorite heat protections? I've been using the tresemme one every one recommended and don't really like it. I also use the Silk Therapy one and really like that.

Straightening with a straightener is easier. It's both the same damage either way in my opinion.

Straightening lasts longer in your hair and makes your hair look really pretty in my opinion not as good as blow drying. personally my hair straightener (which would count as a high end straightner) still does damage hair as lots of heat is applied stripping the hair of it's moisture. Hair dryers also dry out your hair but not as severely. Tbh it is all in moderation I used to straighten my hair everyday which was a huge mistake. Try to eliminate the amount of heat put on your hair also my absolute favourite hair protectant has to be the stay cool heat defence spritz by front row. It works wonders!!

Actually I can straighten my hair with a blow dryier just as easy as if I straighten it and for me it lasts longer because my hair is curly. And blow drying for me looks a bit better because I can get out the little curly kinks that I normally burn myself with a flat iron on and gives me more volume. But thank you all!! I was just courious because I don't want to complety ruin my hair again. Ill for sure be trying out the different products you guys mentioned!!

My absolute favorite heat protector is the Number 4 Lumiere d'hiver Super Comb Prep and Protect. It's a spray that is vegan, gluten free, sulfate and sodium chloride free and paraben free as well. It leaves my hair so silky soft and super shiny, not greasy at all. Oh and it also provides color protection and you've protection and can be used as a detangler too! The only place I have bought it from is Birchbox.com and the only other place I know to buy it from is their website, number4hair.com. I wish it were more widely available because this stuff has saved my hair! Looks like this:

That stuff sounds so amazing Traci! I love how its also gluten free because I have Celiacs and noticed that even hair/face/makeup products even effect me so thats amazing. I will need to check that out.

Yay, glad I helped. It's a little pricey but trust me when I say no other product has made my hair feel so good! And a little goes a long way. I originally received it as a 30ml sample from Birchbox and that lasted me around 6 weeks of daily use for blow drying and detangling throughout the day.

I can blowdry my hair straight in 5 mind compared to 20 minutes of straightening which makes me hair look stiff. I straightened my hair for years and it damaged it like crazy and I stopped that and switched to blowdrying and with coconut oil treatments every week and trims every 4-5 months I hardly have any damage.

Thanks Olivia! I experienced the same exact thing as you! I would straighten my naturally curlly hair every single day for quite a few years but realized I basically murdered my hair. I had recently cut my hair off a 2 ish months ago to a bit below my collar bone again whichh I had to do a year and a half ago when my hair was down past my belly button and really wanted to make sure that I didnt re kill my hair.
