I think bronzer looks muddy on me. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't know if you posted any pics bc if you did its not showing in the thread. The shade you selected may not be a right fit. Or it could be an application issue. Bronzer is best applied with a light hand a bronzer brush (what can be found on the cheap at Target or Walmart). What I sometimes do after application is follow up with my stippling brush to diffuse the rough lines especially if I'm wearing a blush and illuminator. As far as brands go I found success with Bobbi Brown's matte bronzer in 'deep' and her illuminating bronzer in 'bali' is really nice too. Too Faced also has a nice bronzer collection ( in both matte and shimmer). Another option is using a foundation powder a few shades darker than your skintone. ;)

I tried the Nars bronzer and it didnt look nice so I didn't take any pictures. Maybe it is my application method. I was using a blush brush which may have picked up too much product.
I will give Bobbi Brown a try with my stippling brush and see how that works for me.
