Hello! Sorry ladies, this is my second post on this topic today but I just want to make sure everything is right! So, as I stated in my last post I mentioned I will be dying my hair to a mint green & pastel purple ombre. Now, let me clear up some things so there is no confusion.
- My hair is all natural at the roots, down to the mid-shaft where it then fades into a blonde and then dark purple at the ends.
- I HAVE NO INTENTION WHAT SO EVER OF DYING MY ROOTS OR NEAR THEM.
-I am not getting it professionally done, I do not have the money for it.
-I will not be dying my hair myself, my mom who has experience with hair will do it, or my Aunt who is a beautician who also has experience with hair.
So, I have literally have been doing research for HOURS and this is what I have come up with for the process of dying my hair as I please :
? I was recommended to use Manic Panic to dye my hair, BUT through research I found out Manic Panic is a semi-permanent hair dye, which is more of a stain and will fade out within a week or two tops. I found the brand Raw which is supposively really good and is a demi-permanent hair dye which will last longer and the color is superior compared to Manic Panic. ( Based on research. Also has anyone used the brand raw? How was it? )
? I found Matrix V-Light bleach was supposively good and recommended, I have to research more on this.
? After bleaching my hair ( Quick question I thought of as writing this; how long should I leave the dye in my hair? ) I will use Manic Panic Virgin Snow Blonde Toner to eliminate any yellow or orange tones from the blonde & to make it more of a white blonde. ( opinions? )
? I haven't researched a good purple hair dye that is demi permanent yet, any recommendations? But as for the green, I will be using Raw in "Super Green."
? To obtain the pastel colors I will have to mix the dye with a white colored conditioner.
? Too much hair dye in the mix makes it too vibrant and not very pastel looking. Too little hair dye makes a barely visible tint.
? Cover vulnerable areas of the skin such as forehead, around the ears, etc, with Vaseline just in case any dye happens to get there it is easy to remove.
Few more questions;
? How long should I leave on the toner? (As asked earlier in the text but if read over :)
? How long should I leave the bleach on for?
? Any good purple hair dyes that are demi permanent?
Also ;
Please, do not reply down low that I am damaging my hair, and this is all really bad for my hair. As you can see throughout this research I've learned this, and yes I may be only 13 but this is just my time of experimentation and dying my hair to be different is just my cup of tea.:) Thank you for the concern though, in advance.
So, does all of my information seem correct, and also reviews if you have used any of these products? Did I miss anything? sorry this was so long. Thanks in advance. xx

Seems pretty correct to me. Toner should say how long to leave on. Bleach deactivates after 45 minutes, that's why I said it'll probably take two bleachings. Manic panic is a vegetable dye that won't do hardly any damage which would be good since you're bleaching. If you use it in your conditioner and keep using it every time you wash your hair, url maintain the color perfectly. I've never heard of raw dye. You can get manic panic from the site or from sallys. Vaseline keeps dye off of skin, it seems like magic to me haha.

Thanks Shanae! It'll just be really hard to continue using it every time I condition my hair and to maintain it like that which is why I prefer Raw dye. :)

How will it be hard? It's the same. As long as you currently care for the dye in your hair, it'll be fine.

I've used manic panic and it lasted much longer than two weeks before fading, and then it was very easy to touch up. I agree with shanae's advice - just keep an eye on the bleach and rinse when it's light enough or if your hair starts to feel stretchy (a sign it's getting badly damaged). For pastel purple you need to get literally ALL the yellow/orange tones out or it won't show. It'll probably take multiple bleachings and a lot of toner to get white blonde.

Continueing to rebuy the product every time I run out if it to maintain it, basically. My hair is really thick so dying it is a really long process, and since I'm doing 2 colors if I mix the colors into my conditioner it'll mix my colors and in afraid that it just might ruin the ombre.

Just buy two huge bottles of conditioner. You have to be careful either way. Putting dye in your conditioner is what people do to get a pastel look and then to maintain it.

However long dye lasts depends on how long you care for it. That's with any dye. But I do second ion brights. I think manic panic is better though.

Ion brights is a close second.

What dye will last for you may not last on others. It all depends on the porosity of your hair, the dryness, the amount of color you use, etc.etc. So you'll just have to use different brands till you find the one that lasts longest for you.
Manic panic and special effects are generally the longest lasting on the majority of people. I like special effects best. I can usually get 6+ months without major fading or having to redye. Whereas ion lasted two washes for my hair, but lasts long on some people. It's also going to fade extremely quick since it'll be pastel. Plan to redye an average of every 2-3 weeks depending how often you wash your hair.
Manic panic, special effects, directions and punky color are all veggie dye mixed with conditioner. Which means it won't damage your hair and you can literally leave it on for hours and it'll be like a hair mask. Splat, raw, and ion are chemically made, so they can be drying, you can still leave it on for hours, its not damaging it's just a bit drying. Like using a crappy shampoo and conditioner. These ones are more likely to stain, so if you plan on changing colors I'd stick to veggie dye.
Bleaching the purple will be stupid though. Especially if you used any vibrant color dye, it can push the color deeper into the hair causing it to stain. I definitely recommend going to a professional. It really doesn't cost that much, and you can tell your mom that buying all the stuff needed for bleaching the hair, and all the aftercare for it will be about the same as going to a mid level quality salon. It'll be incredibly hard to get an even color if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah there is no such thing as permanent dyes in pastel/rainbow type colors - beautylish made an article recently in the editorial section you should check that out because it has good advice about keeping your color to last longer, etc - but it's a lot of maintenance and you usually have to re color every month - if not more often if you wash your hair more than 2-3 times a week - the color is most vibrant the first 2 weeks then fades gradually - usually to the blonde permanent color or something similar - it can also be very damaging to bleach your hair so be very careful - even most professional salons cannot get it right if you have dark hair - I've had a bad experience with blonde highlights at a salon and my hair was damaged until I cut all the blonde out - so just be careful and some other tips for after care are - wash less often and when you do wash only do it with cold or lukewarm water - and try not to use heat tools - those should help the color last longer

Personally I adore Special Effects dye. With pastel hair you can just get a cheap white conditioner to mix with the dye so maintaining it isn't so costly. 😁
