So my best friend and I are complete hair dye junkies only problem is everytime I dye my hair she dyes her hair the same colour :( it may seem like I'm being petty but she won't stop trying to upstage me! How do I tell her nicely?

Yikes. That's kinda tough. Maybe she just doesn't have another source of inspiration? I would try to brainstorm ideas with her before you change your hairstyle so you can make sure you end up with different things, without any hurt feelings.

I would ask her first if shes trying to get the same hair color as you on purpose.

I have no idea, but I've been in the same boat and lost a friend over it. My best friend in middle school dyed her hair bright red the weekend after I did, then went "everybody copies me with my hair, I got red hair first and now everybody does" yet I did her hair after I did mine, then same thing with all my funky colors. After a while I got angry when she said that again due to a bad mood and said she wasn't the first, I dye your hair with my leftover dye so obviously you're not the trend setter. And that led to a big fight and then we didn't really talk after that so just try not to do it when you're angry or upset lol. I don't have any advice other than that unfortunately :c

When you say upstage you, do you mean she tries to look better than you and rubbing it in your face? Or do you just inspire her and think you just look beautiful? If it's the latter, I would let it go and have joy that a friend loves your style.

I'm usually one to take a really subtle route when it comes to these things. I would try something like showing her pictures of hair colors that would look good on her specifically. Like next time your talking about dying your hair show her one of those pictures and tell her why. For example, "this shade of red would really highlight your green eyes" or something else that applies to her. If she doesn't take the hint you'll probably just have to tell her strait up.

I used to have a friend like this too and it was pretty dang annoying, not going to lie lol. What I did was try to keep her out of the loop as far as what was going on with my hair and piercings so she didn't know when I'd be dying it and it'd be more of a shock so she wouldn't have time to contemplate doing it. Or like Shanae said, do something she won't be able to do lol :)

I used to do everything my sister did when I was little and it pissed her off and one day she said "why do you have to copy me" and I was like What lol! But I didn't get offended by it, I was just disappointed she didn't want me to copy her lmao! (She's 6 years older) hahah. But If you guys are super good friends I think you should just bring it up like "is there a particular reason you have to dye your hair like mine? Just asking" that's probably how I'd go about it but I'm socially awkward lol so straight forward is easiest

Maybe when you're talking about hair, just ask what makes her decide to choose a certain hair color, what her inspiration is, or if she has an idea of other colors that she's thinking of getting in the future? Just by talking about those things can eventually bring you by the 'coincidental' fact that both of you often happen to walk around with the same hair color. Depending on her reaction on all of this you could decide which way or if you're telling her? I think you should, I can imagine it's just not very pleasant! But then again, maybe you are a great example/inspiration to her :) That's a compliment too.
