I'm in love with all things boho 🙌 and I've always wanted dreads but everyone says their gross and expensive. What's yalls input on dreads?? I have moderately long hair (maybe more medium then long when straight) and the color is just a mix of faded ombré. What do you guys suggest for me??

Maybe you should try faux dreads. I don't think dreads are expensive it's just you got to find the right people to do it and their only "gross" looking to me if you look unkempt.

Dreadd to me are like grey hair, not everyone can pull them off. Dreads aren't expensive, I used to charge $15 to do my friends dreads and all the stuff cost me like less than $10, they were basically paying for the labor, which wasn't much either lol. However, your hair looks extremely then so unless you add some fake ones in with your hair, it won't look good. You should definitely try it out though, see how you like them, you can always take them out. (:

Just go to Sallys, get some mango lock and some gel and some extra dreads, it's totally doable.

I personally don't think it'll look good.
I love how dreads look (I use to want them myself) but I just don't think they will suit you nicely.
my sister had dreads and she ended up taking them out after a week or two.
they aren't expensive at all either

In my opinion, if you don't get extra dreads added in, it won't look right.

Dreads aren't expensive but you have to take care of them. My youngest cousin has dreads and his look great, but his mom makes sure to twist them frequently. The ones that look like shit are the ones you can tell haven't been properly cared for.

But try faux dreads first to see if you like how it looks.

You can also buy a dread wig, since you have thin hair, it'll be easier for you to hide your actual hair and use the dread wig. I love them.

They're not gross. I don't think people realize that you can still wash you're hair with dreads. and price really depends on where you go. my mom does her own so hers are pretty much free except for products she buys for retwist

I personally think you'd look better without them. I'm not a fan :/

I put my boyfriend's dreads in for him. I put in about 120 and it took three days to complete. I used the back combing method and crocheted them as well as palm rolling them. He's half Korean and has really coarse hair that, in my opinion, was horrible to try and knot up whereas my thin straight hair will turn into a big matted knotted mess if go to sleep without brushing it. He does not use any products in his hair at all except for Neutrogena residue free shampoo when he washes his hair about once a week. you have to dry them thoroughly after getting them wet in any way to avoid mildew. They don't smell or feel gross like most people think. but they require a lot of maintenence and in my boyfriend's case that involves me crocheting any loose fuzzy hairs into his nearby dreads. I admit that I have been slacking on this because it kills my body especially my hands and neck and back so he has a decent amount of fuzziness he doesn't like and sometimes he wants to cut them because of it. then there are days when he loves them. I get both these feelings too about his dreads because I prefer short hair but then I see how happy he is with them and I love them too. The biggest thing I would say if you're going to get them you need so much patience. It can take a long time for dreads to mature and start actually looking decent. There will be days where you think your hair looks awful and that it's not worth it but if you stick it out, they will mature and you will love them. They will go through a shrinking process where they tighten up and shorten then they will grow out and you have to figure out what to do with your roots if you want to help them dread up or keep them fuzzy looking until they do it on their own. if he lets me, I'll post a few pictures of his hair and how they look before and after being crocheted for maintenence and maybe before he got them done so you can see how it was. It's a long term commitment so you should do as much research as possible before you make your decision. and technically, they aren't permanent and there are ways to get them out without cutting your hair. My boyfriend made the decision because he thought that this might be the only time in his life he could have dreads because if he gets a job that doesn't allow it or whatever the reason, the time may not be right. I wish you so my luck making your decision, just remember it's a long process and commitment but the outcome can be so worth it.

And the texture of your hair matters so much. for my boyfriend, there's no such thing as a "retwist" it is a big process to do maintenence because his hair so thick and does not knot easily at all. there is no twisting involved it is just straight up getting his hair into the tightest uniform knots as possibly in any way possible without breaking his hair with the crochet hook. I forgot to add that in my opinion, anyone who wants dreads and is dedicated to them can pull them off. I think you could do it if you really wanted them.
