Thinking of just colouring my hair at home. Looking for an ashes brown to ash blonde ombré. Is there anything special I should do to really make it ashy? And any recommendations on dyes? I don't live anywhere when I can buy different toners, just box dye.

It really depends on your current hair colour. if you have to lighten it, the outcome may be brassy. to cancel the yellow out use purple shampoo/contitioner and let it sink in for about 15 minutes depending on the brassiness. I would really recommend going to a professional or at least buy at a hair saloon supply store. but if you really don't want to for box dyes I recommend the schwarzkopf nordic blondes first to go a light blonde, and then any ashy brown/blonde dye of your choice. the oucome will probably be a little brassy, but as I.said purple shampoo will help.

Spot on^
That's the color I'm about to get after going to 2 appointments to get my hair lighter. It's beautiful ^.^

I'm following because it's exactly what I need to know too!! I have naturally blonde hair but after many years of dying it blonde it's darkened a lot and whenever I dye it at home it goes orangey! 😭

Please pelase please let me know if you find the answer to this

That's the results after 2 hair lightening appointments so you have to be patient and buy what Julia recommended. Pravana lights is a good purple shampoo for canceling out the brasiness (:

When I lightened my hair with box color I used loreal feria in absolute platinum. I loved it. Didn't pull orange. But always use purple shampoo once you notice it starts to get brassy. I also recommend wella toner in t18 you can buy it online.
