I believe it depends on where you live. I know in the states it is mainly called nail polish, but my friends in the UK call it lacquer. I have seen some US brands adopting that name possibly because it is fancier, or because they are branching out their business to overseas customers such as those in the UK.

We mostly call it Nail Polish or Nail Varnish here in the UK. Lacquer seems to be a term that the magazines use.

Thank you for clearing that up Meghan :) I have no idea why I said UK.... My friends are in other parts of europe, I guess I had a small blonde moment :) lol
