I would either look at the characters of the original film and how they looked, or look at stars of that era.
Only problem being, many pictures you'll find are extremely stereotypical or only slightly representative of that era, so you have to be careful:)

Go crazy on the hair teasing, since it's theatrical you can really make it as big as possible!

As for makeup, a black and white cut crease with super thick false eyelashes and nude lips was super on-trend back then. I also agree with Hannah, watch the movie, also you can try watching other period movies set in the 60s such as The Help (which is one of my favorite movies actually).
