Ross employee here with some insider info for you guys! Most stores do markdowns on Sunday mornings and into the afternoon (9am-1pm). We get new shipments every weekday morning. The best time to shop is early afternoon when the markdowns are finished and the shipment is all on the floor.

When you see things marked down, it means that the item has been in the store for a while, not necessarily that it is damaged. If it is marked down because of damage, the ticket will say "AS IS" and is final sale. Food goes on clearance frequently in order to make room for new products, not because it is about to expire (but still check dates; we do our best but with so many items sometimes a couple slip past us).

If you find some damage on an item but you still want it, ask the cashier for a discount. Depending on the extent of the damage, they'll take off 10-15%.

Check out the cosmetics section too! Sometimes we get brands like Sephora, Physicians Formula, and Nyx. Most of the time it is cheap unbranded crap, but once in a while you find a really good deal on a good brand.

If anyone here (or their family) is 55 or older, shop on Tuesdays! You'll get 10% off your purchase every Tuesday.

Lastly, every store gets different inventory. In the same district we'll get similar items, but rarely the same.

Just FYI if you didn't know, Ross and DD's are the same company. :)

Do you happen to now if the nikes/jordans that Ross receives are real?

Yes. Any products that we carry are real, as it is illegal to sell counterfeit goods. The way that Ross works is that we buy overstock/backstock from other stores. So if a store like Target orders too much, or stops carrying something but they still have inventory, they sell it cheap so that they don't have to take a total loss. Our buyers purchase those items and they get sent to our stores. That's why we have name brands for lower prices than anywhere else. We buy cheap, sell cheap. Instead of making our money via markups like other retailers, we make our profits in sheer quantity of sales. :)

Some things come to us directly from the manufacturer, like home goods (glassware in particular) and some clothing lines. Otherwise, everything else is overstock-- this is why no two Ross or DD's stores have the same inventory.
