swatching it on your wrist isnt as accurate. if you're at a store like sephora they can match you. or you swatch on the side of your cheek down past your jawline and see what matches the best. take someone with you so they can give you a second opinion.
if you're at the drugstore get what you think is closest, a shade lighter, and a shade darker. usually drugstores have a generous return policy but you might want to ask before you but the product

Do not get matched at sephora it's always inaccurate..however, if u do, make sure you get a sample and wear it on a day out and see how it looks under sunlight if it matches your skin tone then go back and buy it if not get a light/darker shade

I got matched at the Macy's Lancôme counter before getting a sample of the foundation..she matched me by my wrist and vein color. She didn't even apply it on my face and it was my perfect match. So yes wrist is accurate

oh ok thank you girls. this help a lot, now i have to go to Macy's i think that's a definitely a store i could trust (: thanks to all of you guys

It really depends on who you have matching you. I wouldn't say it's a store as a whole. I've been to MAC counters and people couldn't match me very well. I've dealt with Sephora people who couldn't match me very well, but I had another one at Sephora (sigh, and she left sometime ago, makes me sad) match me very well. Don't side eye the store as a whole. Just side eye the person working there that matched you incorrectly. I've known other people who have had correct matches at Sephora as well.

But there is one thing I agree with Seline's comment and that's to ask for a sample or two of the foundation, maybe even of the shades around the shade that was matched to you as well. Lighting CAN make things look difference, so it's best to have those options.

Go to www.findation.com you type in a foundation or 2 that you have used before and they tell you high and low end foundations that will work for you. I love it and it works every time!

I think its best to get them to test two or three shades discretely on your jaw or something and quickly nip out into the daylight. store lighting isn't going to help any and swatchimg your wrist... well I don't know anyone who's face and wrist are the same colour...

you can't use your wrist to tell what will work. my inner arm/wrist area tends to be lighter than the rest of my body. you're supposed to use your lower cheek into the jawline. you put whatever color you're testing on that spot and blend downward. whichever one blends into your skin is the right color for you. it should only take a minimal amount of blending, NOT a lot, otherwise the color is not correct.

that video explains very simply how to match yourself for foundation

To be fair, my wrist and my face are actually kinda the same, but my face is a lot more red. But my neck is much more yellow than my face, so that's why it makes more sense to match to your neck/chest (if you're someone like me who wears tank tops most of the time and they show a lot of chest area, then) since that's what people will end up looking at. Face, then neck/chest. Not face and then your wrist.

Everytime I go anywhere to get matched they always pick a color that looks too orange on me?? WTF lol I always know I'm usually the second lightest shade in any line. But get samples!! And if they match you and you can tell its the wrong color, don't be afraid to tell them. I've done it and was happy i did because then I got the correct shsde

I usually swatch two or three colors on my jawline to find my match.

What's your skin type? Always swatch 2or3 shades on your jawline. If you ever feel like your makeup is cakey damp your sponge or warm your foundation with your fingertips.

before looking for colors, are you asking about formulas for dry skin/oily skin etc? Different types of foundation work better for different skin. Don't be shy asking the SA about their experience as well as products. A good way to tell is to ask something you already know the answer to, if they answer differently, ask for an explanation. I cannot stand when I know more about the products they sell then they do grrr... different rant for a different day.... anyhow... research never you go. Sephora website is pretty good about listing the info on products and what skin type they ass meant for, also, read the reviews, most people share their skin type in the side bar under their name. If people with similar skin are posting good/bad reviews that could be an indicator of what type of products to look for
