Hair growth journey!

I am starting the long process of growing out my hair. Ugh!

I have really dark hair (I'm half Korean) and throughout high school, I bleached and colored the absolute hell out of it. I stopped last year, and the formerly colored part of my hair is this weird silvery-greyish shade now. It isn't dry or anything, no split ends, but it's damaged. My natural hair has grown out about two inches, and now my hair is almost shoulder-length.

I intend to start taking vitamins, eating healthy, and doing oil massages to help my natural hair come in healthy. I wanted to ask the beautylish community if anyone has any tips and tricks, or product suggestions for shampoo and brushes and such. I'll update as much as possible on my progress.

There's no miracle product or technique to make hair grow faster as hair growth is based on genetics, however there are things you can do to help promote hair growth.

-use sulphate free shampoos
-use a hair mask at least once a week
-never brush hair when wet
-use as little heat as possible
-use a heat protectant when you do use heat
-get regular trims
-make sure your ponytails/buns aren't too tight
-drink plenty of water and keep yourself healthy as well

Please do NOT take any kinds of pills, including Biotin, Hairfinity, or any other hair, skin, and nail pills, unless you consult a doctor first. Taking supplements without a deficiency can cause serious health problems.

I've heard people rave about shampoos like Mane 'n' Tail to help strengthen hair. It has sulphates though. Any thoughts?

Mane N Tail is formulated for horses, hence the name, and it contains tons of waxes that human hair doesn't need. It gives the illusion of longer hair because it's being weighed down by waxes. Just stick with regular shampoos.

Mane n tail is horrible for human hair. HORRIBLE.

Congratulations on the growing out part! My hair was blonde too and I too dyed my hair, a lot lol! So I'm doing the same thing as you right now!

What I've personally been doing (nothing to "grow" it) but make sure that my "new" hair so to speak lol will grow out healthily. I've been using leave in treatments fairly often, coconut oil and argan oils after I wash it. So far I'm about the same length or a little more then you aswell with the regrowth, just keep doing what you're doing :) I've been getting any split ends cut off every 6-8 weeks since I started growing it out.

Here's my hair so far! Lol :( I always have the urge to dye it though.

Joico k-pack it's a deep penetrating reconstructing conditioner at sally's beauty supply you could find the generic brand it has the same ingredients as joico. also at sally's Aphogee keratin and green tea restructurizer and the leave in conditioner. At ulta I got a keratin shampoo and conditioner for overprocessed hair. I also have abused my hair and this products are helping my hair. I run out of the leave in conditioner but its a pink bottle.

Ahhhh I've been considering tape extensions!! Any thoughts on them? I'm a compulsive haircut kind of person with a severe wild-dye problem and I feel like tape extensions would be a good buffer while I work on letting my hair grow.

Are there any good brands for a sort of trial-run? I know I want to get Zala brand tape ins but I want to start with a less expensive option before I make that pricey commitment.

Okay here I am 4 months into my hair growth. I'm not noticing a ton if length difference, but I'd estimate it's about half an inch longer? I've been using Mane n Tail, despite everyone saying it's bad, because I have Asian hair and everyone who hates it has a totally different hair type. I've done a couple protein treatments and oil massages which have really helped my roots (my natural black hair) come in stronger. The Mane n Tail does WONDERS for my combination hair type (thick, not coarse but not fine) and my hair and scalp feel so much healthier now. I will keep updating, but all is going well!

Mane n Tail works amazingly for me, btw. It doesn't build up in my hair which is a nice change. I have a hard time finding hair products that work for me because I am biracial and have not-white-person hair like everyone I know. Mane n Tail gives my hair a really clean feeling, keeps it soft and shiny, while also giving it the texture and bounce that most products don't. I've found brands like Herbal Essences and Loreal just weigh my already heavy hair down and make it look TOO shiny (like unnaturally grease-like shine on my hair). I started with the deep moisturizing Mane n Tail and have switched to the regular which I buy at Sally's for $12 (two huge bottles).

Sorry about the weird expression. (: Nine months into the growth process! The line of blonde used to be about two inches from my scalp and look at it now! Whoa! I've been taking better care of it, and have noticed an improvement in the virgin roots. Still using Mane n Tail, switching between that and the 0% Herbal Essences line. I deep condition twice a week (it's getting cold here) and have noticed a decrease in split ends, dullness, dryness, and flatness. It's awkward to put up still, but my hair now falls just to my collar bone.

Here is another update. Many months into the process now, but I have finally vanquished the evil blonde from my hair! Huzzah! In total, I've grown out like... A lot of hair. Five or six inches. Refer to the first picture for how much blonde I had, and have since trimmed out.

I've been taking vitamins, using healthier shampoo and conditioner (I switched to Not Your Mother's "Way to Grow" but only because my local shop doesn't have the NYM's cleansing shampoo/conditioner anymore), and generally just being kind to my scalp. I actually really want to cut it all off again because I never learn, but right now all of my hair is my natural color, and is totally virgin for the first time in like,.. Eight years. Wow.

I want to dye it green and get an undercut tbh but I'm trying to be patient... Summer is hot though!

The length really hasn't made a lot of progress because I've had to do trims regularly to deal with the blonde. It wasn't damaged (since it had been a while since it was colored), but breakage became a problem. It's been a year and four months and I have about half a foot more hair than when I started. Worth the long wait? Yes. Do I want megalong hair? Yes. Am I going to go crazy and start the process over again? Probably.

I'll keep posting here every now and then, for anyone who is still following. 😁 Tell me about your hair, your fave colors and cuts, and whether any of this was helpful.
