it's based on makeup preference. Neither of the stores can alter suggested retail prices. So Ulta can't have a sale on smashbox for 40% off or vice versa. Ulta sells some brands of makeup that are cheaper in price range. These products would be the ones you find at drug stores. They also have a few higher end brands. Sephora has their house brand, which runs at a lower price point, and then they have higher end brands. The higher end brands are better quality, so they last longer and are extremely beautiful. So choosing a store is based on what you need. Sephora will make you samples to try out and has highly trained consultants that can assist you and apply your makeup as well. I say if you are looking for a better experience in a store, go to Sephora.

I shop at both. If I had to choose, I'd say Sephora, but I do like taking advantage of the BOGO deals and coupons that Ulta offers. I generally get better customer service at Sephora.

I went to Ulta tonight to buy my real techniques brushes and when I was checking out I was ignored through the entire process. All I was asked was for my phone number because I didn't have my club card on me. The girl was more concerned with talking to her friend about what shift she was working tomorrow and other things she could have waited to talk about because they were closing and the store was almost empty. Something like this happens every time I go there which is why I dread going there and why I prefer Sephora.

Ulta even though they sell drugstore products for a higher price! That's what bugs me.

ULTA. I find Sephora to have a smaller range of products and the prices are the same at both places. ULTA also offers waxing services and salon, and drugstore products as well!

Ultra has hair care as well as beauty and drug store brands like Maybeline as well as the pricey stuff! And also, Ulta has MY FAVORITE foundation. It's easier to sample their products and in the end, more affordable.

Sephora; I don't have any care for hair, the point system is better, and it's more available.
