Maybe apply more to the areas they aren't as dark to like even it out.

Exfoliation helps. Lemon will help but is not nice to your skin. Future reference your knees, heels, and elbows or other dryer areas absorb A lot more color than the rest of your skin. So when self tanning use product sparingly on those areas

Heat. Take a hot hot shower and take lemon and salt (or sugar) something coarse to exfoliate. (I used the lemon scrub from arbonne) and warm up your elbows in the hot shower and scrub scrub scrub baby. I had an uneven tan on my thighs and this helped immensely! I drove home with hot pizza boxes on my lap which erased the tan on my thigh so I had to scrub away the rest of the tan haha. Oops

Wow I really wish I knew that last year. I was applying (what I thought was) jergens natural glow all over my body as usual but when I woke up in the morning I was so dark/orange (keep in mind I am as white as they come) and it was super dark at my knees elbows and fingers. it was awful because I had to go to school and I couldn't get rid of it for two weeks (-:

Exfoliating can help I'm pretty sure. Try and wash it off each night and/or morning until your happy with the colour.

Baking soda and lemon juice!!

I seen friends making a scrub with baking soda and lemon juice. In the future apply moisturizer on elbows and knees before using self tanner.

I had this happen to me the day before my husband's return from Afghanistan (hello nightmare!) and exfoliating didn't do much since I didn't have much time. What I did was pick up some self tanner (I used jergens) and very carefully applied it to the patchy areas to even it out. So if exfoliating doesn't end up working, give that a try! It's a pain, but it worked. My husband didn't notice a thing haha.

Makeup A. Has a good point. I would recommend using lotion on the dryer parts of your skin next time beforehand.

Scrub the heck out :) As Raylene said, heat helps because it looses up the dead skin cells on the surface... so soak in some hot water, then exfoliate few times until it starts to hurt, then you should stop, dry your skin and apply the tan on the rest of the skin that is lighter, but take your time doing this to even it as much as possible... Go light-ish and carefully, and do the same the next day if needed and you should be fine...Spray tan really just literally colors the surface dead skin cells, and some small % of the alive surface ones,so exfoliation and being careful when applying it shoud be enough to even it all out

And for next time as ladies above said, please put some skin cream/lotion on the dry parts of the skin (elbows, hands and fingers, knees and feet) This happens just because there ALWAYS a lot more dead skin in these areas naturally, due to walking, mechanical damage of the skin, lack of oil glands/pores there and such... Just keep that in mind :)
