When you dye your hair, don't wash the dye out with shampoo, just rinse it with water and use the color saving conditioner that comes with the dye

With dark box dyes, I've found it's best to avoid washing your hair for a few days after to prevent color fade.

Don't wash your hair the day that you are going to dye it, and get a deep treatment hair mask and use it every week.
