I would go on YouTube, watching tutorials would be a million times more helpful then someone trying to explain it!

Don't use a mirror! I find mirrors make me confused as I see everything backwards

I feel like dutch braids are easier for me to do on myself than french braids.

Practice, practice, practice! If it's not something you grew up doing, it's going to take some time. It's super frustrating, but I promise you, one day you're going to make the attempt and find out your fingers did all the work without you realizing. I think it's a muscle memory thing. They used to be so difficult for me to do, and now I don't even have to think about it. My advice would be to do a cheater french braid (I don't know if it has a real name). Instead of adding in new strands with each step, add in a slightly larger section to your braid in the French style, and then do a regular braid for three or four steps, then add in more strands in the French style, then a regular braid again, and so on until your braid is complete. This will help your arms from getting tired, which for me, is the number one cause of frustration. I hope this helps! I'd also recommend checking out Bebexo and Lilith Moon on youtube, they both have instructional videos and explain things really well!

I have a hard time doing French braids as well, but I find that it's easier to do if you put a good headband in (I use an under armor) and then do it.

I would figure out a way to make your hands feel comfortable when trying to make the braid so your more relaxed or use a double mirror so you can see it clearly

I agree with you Justine! I always dutch braid my hair rather than french because it's easier. I can do two full dutch braids in 2 minutes but french braids take me forever!
