So I have natural auburn hair. Everyone tells me never to dye it, but I want to try something new. This is a silly question but I am a novice when it comes to this. The dye wouldn't hurt my natural color since I am not damaging the hair follicle right?

The dye will not damage the hair. But if you bleach in you're hair the bleach will damage

I'm pretty sure any form of dye does some damage to the hair. My mom dyes her hair and after so many years, her hair is really dry and brittle and it won't grow past a certain length (that's after many many years of dying it) Dying it once isn't going to damage it dramatically, but after many years of doing it (many have to keep dying it again because the color will fade) you will probably start seeing some damage (not saying it's going to be like my moms; she has naturally dry hair) Any form of bleach however, is going to damage the hair and I would try to steer away from it.
