Hi ladies,
I was so excited to finally purchase this foundation after hearing so many good things about it, but it looked AWFUL on me! It made my pores look HUGE, it settled into wrinkles I didn't even know I had, and looked caked on and icky!
I have combination skin. Before applying the foundation, I used Too Faced's Primed and Poreless, waited about 10 minutes and then applied the foundation with a beauty blender. Looked WONDERFUL, but as soon as it started to set it honestly made my skin look awful.
Do you ladies think I was using too much? An application error? I'm so dissapointed. Any tips would help. :-(

Try it without the primer and apply using a foundation brush versus the beauty blender. And apply the foundation is sections using a lil less than what you probably used the first time around. Take a less is more approach. For long wearing foundation formulas I usually skip out on primer...I just blot my skin after my AM moisturizer has settled and then go in with foundation application.

I agree with Shelley
Use a foundation brush to apply, but when doing this move the brush in circular motions around the areas that have larger pores. This will help put foundation in those spots and cover it up better.
Then when you have done that, just pat over the area with the brush to smooth it out :)

I use a buffing brush with ELDW to really work the foundation into the skin rather than having it sit on top of the skin. I agree with Shelley that less is more so use a little bit at a time and make sure each layer has set before attempting to apply more (:

It's the combo product's not working together too faced prime & poreless is a hydrating primer and your applying a semi matte foundation over it which can work if you press the primer on only where is needed but the thing is that Too faced prime & poreless doesn't work well with all foundations and will lift product. I don't use those two product's together,I use Estee lauder Mattifying perfecting primer with Estee foundations and when I use the Too faced primer it's alone or pressed on lightly over pores before using a illuminating product for that added hydrating finish . Like mentioned above a little goes a long way try to apply little product. :)

It's definitely the primer. I moisturise still but don't use primer with this foundation. Make sure your skin is completely dry as well, I find when its hot and my skin is a bit sticky this happens as well. And as mentioned a buffing brush works well, with a little product. You can always build it up.

I agree with most people above, however I would try using a setting powder, perhaps it cosmetics bye bye pores loose setting powder on areas that your pores are larger. (P.s. I would not recommend swirling your brush in circular motions to apply your foundation. From what it sounds like, the reason youre using that primer bc you have dry skin. Applying foundation with a brush in a circular motion can cause micro exfoliation to the skin which would bring out more flakiness on the skin).

Can you please explain about combining primers with foundations? If the foundation is oil-free, do we need to use a mattifying primer? No moisturizing primers? If the foundation is moisturizing, does the primer need to be moisturizing? No oil-free or mattifying primers?

Yes, it sure does! Thanks Jacqueline! I have tried to use my It Cosmetics CC cream and the Bye Bye Foundation - which are very moisturizing for me (I know some people have complained that it's drying for them...??) - over Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, and it just doesn't work. I have dry skin, but moisturize very well, so I use the Mineral Veil to cut some of the moisture. Then I love the It products because it puts some of the "dew" back in my skin. Maybe I don't need primer...? I've been using the It products alone lately and I must say, it looks much nice. What a pity that one has to look for specific ingredients and I didn't know until now (and other probably didn't, either!). It would be great if companies labeled their products as to whether they're oil, water or silicone based. Another lesson from my teacher Jacqueline! xox

Chris, I use the IT's CC cream as my daily foundation. I find it works better without any primer and only a light moisturizer (and eye cream) to prep my skin before application. My skin is mostly normal (although 47, but minimal wrinkles). Only if my skin has been thrashed on and really dry will I prep before hand with the Embryolaisse. Hope that helps you some.

Thank you, Tina! I am quite a bit older than you (than anybody, I think! ;)) and I feel like I need to slather the moisture on - even though I don't think it all soaks in! I appreciate your input. I seem to like it better without primer, too!
