Skincare junkies - help!

So I've been trying to improve my skincare regimen, slowly integrating new products so I know what works, what doesn't, and so I don't overwhelm my sensitive little face. Anyway, I have my basic morning/nighttime routine down, and my skin is better for it, for sure. But definitely not where I want it to be.

My skin is dehydrated/oily (less so than before, but I'm on medication that dries out everything, so not much to be done about that), quite sensitive, some blackheads/clogged pores, and acne-prone. I rarely get cystic acne, though it does happen. I get hormonal breakouts on my chin and cheeks. But by and large my most annoying and stubborn skin issue is the subclinical acne on my forehead. I've had it since I was a preteen, and while it's better than back then, I would like to be done with it now! So I want to incorporate a "treatment," for lack of a better word. I am DEFINITELY open to suggestions, but I have it narrowed down to 2 options. I may eventually get both, but I'd like to start with just one.

I'm looking at either the Origins Clear Improvement Activated Charcoal Mask, or the Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel. Totally different products and method of delivery, so I'm having a hard time figuring out which would be more effective! I would love some insight on what to do here. I'm also definitely open to other suggestions, though I'd rather not spend more than $45.

Oh I should have mentioned, I'm trying to stay away from products that have salicylic acid as the only or top active ingredient. It doesn't play well with my skin. Also, menthol is a big no no for me too. No reaction, really, I just can't stand the way it feels.

Okay, what I would do it get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water. If you wear makeup take a break from it. Face your face after you Come home and before you go to bed

I've used origins mask and I like it, the skin feels clean and purified. I used it every three or four weeks so I cannot say how it works if it is used consistently.

Thank you, Sadiya! It seems like most people really like it.

Thanks for replying, Sarah! I already only wear makeup once or twice a week, wash my face twice daily. Sleep is tricky since I have a chronic pain condition, and if I drank any more water I'd be a fish. Hence, my frustration lol.

With subclinical acne that you've had since preteen...I think you're spinning your wheels using store grade skincare products. I suggest seeking a pro grade facial infusing glycolic acid peels every six weeks. They provide derm grade products that contain a higher level of active ingredients that will offer faster results than what can be done at home. The two products you mention thinking about trying only address the top layer of the skin. It's not going to go deep into pores like a pro product can.

Thank you for the advice, Shelley! Is that something I can get myself, or would I need to see a derm or esthetician? I would like to see a professional, but I could only afford maybe one visit right now, with the cost of an appointment plus product purchases.

You can get a facial thru an esthetician who uses much stronger products than the stuff found at ULTA or Sephora for the issue you're dealing with. I would start with a visit (which you only need to do every six weeks if possible). And then just ask for one solid product suggestion that could anchor you for awhile before diving in for a complete product line purchase. I can't speak on all skin pros but where I go for a my facials I always leave out with deluxe size samples of the products used during the facial so I can carry on the results till my skin calms down from the process. Going to a derm of course is going to cost an arm and a leg so I would go to one as a last resort.
