Well it's not a cream but I use Vitamin E oil for my skin after washing and I have to say my face's complexion has gotten a lot better in terms of scarring and I've had bad acne since 8th grade and I pick at it too.

I would go with a retinoid, best thing you could use!

The best way to diminish acne scars, dark spots and hyperpigmentation is to change your skincare routine with a few different products. First is to make sure you use SPF in your moisturizer everyday, even when wearing makeup. UV Rays will only make these darker and more stubborn to get rid of. The next is to use a Vitamin C serum every day after cleansing and toning your skin but before your moisturizer. Vitamin C has been proven to lighten dark spots, acne scars and hyperpigmentation. Retin-A cream at night can help with skin regeneration with eliminate acne scars faster. Clay masks twice a week will lighten dark spots through exfoliation. You can also invest in a Clarisonic; it helps also with ensuring acne production is low, daily light exfoliation, and with the right cleanser helps to reduce to keep skin in its best condition.
Hope this helps!

Tamara nailed it!
SPF is a must, I really can't stress how important it is.
For my spots, I currently use Paula's Choice 2% Liqiud BHA, EltaMD's tinted sunscreen and I get a 30% peel done every 3 weeks at the derm.

I agree with a vitamin c serum and SPF every day of 30+ and a chemical exfoliant is good too like a BHA or AHA.

I'm using that garnier dark spot treatment too and I like it - but you have to use it every day maybe even twice a day before you start seeing results after about 2 weeks of use - but it works cause it has vitamin c in it :) just don't forget to wear SPF over it during the day or it won't work.

To be honest, spots take time to fade and if your routine is in check then it's just a matter of patience. Even chemical peels require to be done more than once to see results, your results will probably be more dramatic on the 5th or 6th peel and SPF must be worn like your holy grail as to not slow down the process or make them any darker. If you want instant dramatic results, I'd just look into laser resurfacing or any other procedure your derm may suggest.
The only products I like to use to even out my skin tone besides the Paula's Choice BHA is Manuka Honey and Squalane oil.
I've tried Paula's Choice Vitamin C Resist C15 serum, Resist 25% spot treatment, Resist Dark Spot Eraser 2% BHA, Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam 4% BHA, Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA, Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment 10% AHA, Resist BHA 9 Treatment, Clear Extra Strength Acne Exfoliant, Resist Skin Brightening Treatment, Resist Moisture Renewal Oil Booster, and the Skin Recovery Moisturizer. (I've used more but these are all the products I have tried that have to do with spots - I have been using PC products for almost 3 years now.)
Between them all, I found best results using the Skin Recovery Moisturizer, the Resist Skin brightening treatment and her 2% BHA liquid exfoliant.
I found doing Manuka Honey masks were more effective on my skin than Vitamin C serums and my Squalane oil has proven better results than the Vitamin C serums I used (I've used both Paula's choice and the Peter Thomas Roth). These are what my skin responded best to and what I continue to use.

Thank you so much kitty for your info!! I was thinking of trying the 25%apot treatment by paulas choice, did you see good results with it?

Kitty K.
I actually didn't see any results using it, same with her BHA 9 marketed for stubborn spots. I found her AHA's more effective for fine lines than spots as well. The combo I listed above has been most effective for me skin tone wise :)

Thank you soo much! if you had to pick just one from that list above which one is the best for dark spots?

I agree with kitty you can use the most strongest products for spots and it's still really up to your skin to heal itself and that's all the products are doing is speeding up that process - so it's really going to be based on your skin and genetics how long it takes to heal itself - in any case if you are just patient n stick with it you will see results - also small victories will help you see progress - take photos of your face every 2 weeks and compare them to the previous photos and I'm sure you will see the progress more easily than applying products everyday and not noticing much change overnight
