Foundation Looking Cakey, Splotchy, Not Lasting.

My foundation seems to just not look good on my skin. I feel like it leaves it looking like you can always tell when I'm wearing it. Even though I mix it with moistrizer and primer it still looks cakey, and it definetly doesn't last. However, I don't have money right now to buy a new one... so I was hoping if anyone had any tips for that?

What are you using and how are you applying it? Are you letting your skincare and primer settle into the skin before applying it?

Is your foundation water based? That can cause cakiness especially if your primer and such would most likely be full of silicones.
