Hi everyone!
So I have oily/dry skin. Oily on forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and eyelids but dry and red around my nostrils. I was suggested to use Clinique acne kit for this skin type and since I used it, my acne has white tips and looks gross!! I'm not big on using cleansers and all that but I've been using makeup a lot and I want a clean and smooth canvas so it looks good so any recommendations right now would be greatly appreciated!! I've heard great things about philosophy and murad but not sure where to go?? Help, please? 😫🙏🏽

I tried Murad n it dried out my skin like crazy with peeling and that was just after 1 use so I stay away from that stuff... I prefer more natural brands to treat my acne - I have oily/combo skin with psoriasis that makes it sensitive to harsh alcohols - so I try to stick with alcohol free products and things that won't overly dry my skin - so I personally like the acnedote line by alba botanica - it saved my skin when I first got cystic acne - then the toner was feeling harsh on my psoriasis so I switched to witch hazel - and that worked miracles as well - then I also love to spot treat with tea tree oil and found that works well for my cystic acne - I also found the acne products by Mario badescu are very helpful too - there are lots of products out there and you will spend a fortune trying then all out figuring out what works best for you - so instead of going that route - you can get a more efficient way of dealing with your skin by visiting a dermatologist or an esthetician so I would suggest you start there because any advice you get from me or other beauties may or may not work for you.

I am combo also, oily forehead and chin but dry around nose area and slightly on cheeks but not that much. I have found my skincare routine at 29 years old which is SUPER late. I have figured out that less is more. I wash with a gentle cleanser such as andalou brightening cleanser. I tone with Thayer's Witch Hazel toner, it's alcohol free, natural based and it's only 9.99. It's very moisturizing but it's a toner. In summer months I don't follow with moisturizer. In the winter times I use 100% pure brand coffee cherry cream. I don't use any harsh things for acne even though I am very acne prone and SUPER sensitive. Witch hazel helps with acne problem skin by the way and the aloe in the toner helps with blemishes and dark marks.

Hi Anylu! My skin is the same and I just say I'm oily all over. My nose is always dry. Clinique never worked for me and the only thing I liked from Murad is their clarifying mask. But I love Philosophy. I've tried Shiseido, Peter Thomas Roth and many others. I agree with Livi & Diana; simple is better. Make sure whatever you try you stick to for at least a week but preferably 30 days. That's when you'll really see if it's making a difference. As for me, I use Philosophy Purity as a cleanser. My toner, Eau Roma Water is from LUSH. It has no alcohol and is hydrating which I know is strange for oily skin but it works. I use a eye cream during the day and eye gel at night. For some reason that works for me. The cream is from Ole Henriksen & the gel is Mario Badescu. I use a vitamin c for day by Ole Henriksen for my dark spots and hyperpigmentation. At night I'll either use Retinol or a dark spot corrector. Retinol makes my skin very dry and it almost looks like burn marks so I only use it maybe once a week. I ALWAYS use a moisturizer. If anyone asks me how I get such great skin I tell them exfoliate, cleanse, tone and moisturize. Everything else can come later. I use a natural clay mask twice a week and I love mists, like Fix + from MAC or Nirvana from Josie Maran. I spray these after my toner and during the day when it's really hot to refresh my skin.
Skincare is the best way to get flawless foundation application. It seems like a lot but it's totally worth it, I promise. It's what I blog about all the time. I suffered from cystic acne all my life and I finally got it under control. However, I do drink tons of water, eat fruits and vegetables on top of the 10 steps of skincare I do. But you can start small and work up to whatever works for you. So exfoliate with a clay mask, water soluble cleanser like philosophy purity, toner with no alcohol, and moisturizer (one with SPF for the day). Oh for moisturizer I like Josie Maran Argan Daily SPF 47 for day and Aveeno Smart Essentials for night (probably my only drugstore item). Sorry this is really long but I love skincare.

I have the same skin type and I've tried a few different products but I right now I'm using the body shops seaweed purifying cleanser, toner and moisturizer. They're the best one that I have tried by far.

I agree with Rachel. I don't have oily skin and use it just for the seaweed which calms my skin but it controls oils while moisturizing, I never feel dry or oily with it. It's definitely great for those who have combo skin, and it helped my acne, though I was lucky and only get hormonal acne now. But there's a small trial kit that they sell, I'd suggest trying that and maybe the warming clay mask. I used to use it as a spot treatment and let it dry, then rinse off and in the morning they lessened a lot. Good luck! Skincare is such a pain to find the right products.

I am a combination too. And I go to what my skin likes. Some of the products we have may or may not work for you. So make sure to use only a little area in certain areas. I for one love using African black soap, or goat milk- Weird right? I havent had any break outs in months. Just a few acne here and there. But to stop that I use oils. Oils is my best friend, even if I am oily. I use Jojoba oil for that and the rest of my face rosemary. I love the freshness I get with this stuff. Try not to use too many products at one at a time. It can be too much to the skin. Be sure to drink water, and detox waters too-Helps on the inside. Be sure to change sheets, pillows, etc. And thats about it.??

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm noticing Clinique isn't working for me, the dryness around my nose is a bit worse and starting to turn red. 😣 looking thru websites I noticed things are too pricey for me but if it helps with my current situation, then I guess I'll give things a try! 😅
