You shouldn't really need it too early if you look after your skin properly. the sun is really bad for ageing the skin and so is smoking. wear sun glasses if the sun is out and sun cream:) but I'd use it when I'm twenty as that's the youngest age cream there is. that must be when your skin looses elasticity! and stops forming collagen as much:)

I have always looked after my skin, I have used a night cream with retinol since I was 16 (I'm 20 now) it is easier to prevent than to treat. I also take evening primrose oil, it's a great supplement that has anti aging properties and also prevents lots of diseases and makes your hair shiny.

I started at about 24. But like Brittany I've always looked after my skin (being quite pale I've had to be good in the sun with high SPF sun screen) Drinking lots of water is very good for your skin as well as just eating healthier in general.
Bottom line is, protect against the sun, drink lots of water, and no smoking.
Also, don't be fooled into thinking that just because a product is more expensive means its going to do a better job. I use Derma V10 Q10 day and night cream. They are £1.99 each (I'm sure you could find a website that will ship outside the UK) and its been wonderful for me. I always get asked for ID when I'm buying alcohol and I'm 27!
But as the other ladies have said; it's better to prevent than treat :)

@Em L. starting in 30's-40's!? Oh, my word no! By then you'll have no choice to reach for the super aggressive and pricey stuff to undo some of the damage. You don't necessarily have to reach for stuff labeled "anti-aging'. A good anti-oxidant serum and a moisturizing cream or lotion with an spf of at least 30 is a great start. You can also reach for AHA or glycolic serums because not only do they help with clearing acne but help with fine lines that creep up in the mid-20's. Yes, there are definitely products marketed for older skin but to wait till then to get on a program is just nonsense.

@Em L. I disagree with you about waiting till 30's-40's to look into anti-aging products. Especially knowing what I know from personal experience (I'm 39 years old), my husband is a chemist who works in the skincare/cosmetics field and a dermo doctor is in the family they all stress early to mid 20's to start looking into anti-aging products. Not all of it is geared to mature skins (30-40 range). I saw wrinkles spring up in my 20's due to stressful jobs so to say that wrinkles don't exist in the 20's is a complete myth. Wrinkles can come about due to stress, medical issues and using products that aren't good for your skin and last but not least...not staying well hydrated. If you're going to dispense information you have to know your science first.

@Em L. I would need to know your mom's skintype and what kinda issues she is trying to get a handle on? There is some stuff that works great on dry skin while it may cause chaos to oily. And what has tried in the past? And what is she currently using? I have no problem in making product suggestions for your mom. :)

Shouldn't start too early since many of the skincare products are quite rich in texture. The perfect age to start anti-aging would be around 25 since collagen starts to decrease in the body and the metabolism starts to slow down.

I'm 19 and occasionally I use burst bees eye cream with Clary sage at night. its not super intense, just gets rid of some puffiness. but overall just keep moisturized, exfoliated, and protected from the sun!

Anti aging creams are not to be used before 30 theyre made for maturer skin not youthful skin. ask a dermatologist!
