Big topic recently. I have a thing called trichotillomania, it causes you to pull hair out. I pulled out my eyelashes and eyebrows completely. My eyelashes grew back but my eyebrows didn't. I have drawn them on everyday for the past 4 years. People say they don't notice and I try to make them look natural. A lot of people say they the when women do this. But is it really such a bad thing??

I've hurd of that condition... this doesn't really answer your question but maybe you should take a good multi suppliment to promote the hair growth again... Good luck.

Thank you! It sucks because I'm 17 and I haven't had eyebrows since I was 13!!

It's awful when girls like shave off their brows and draw them on really severe or harsh. When you have a really natural look though it's not bad. Posting a pic would help.

I have it! I am addicted to pulling my hair even on my hair line! How do you get over the urge?

I recently found a really good product by sephoras line make up forever it's called aqua brow, you apply it like cream liner with an angled brush and it not only looks so natural it's pretty affordable it's $20 , but will last a really long time! And it's water/sweat proof and stays on for a really really long time!! I love it! My eyebrows have just never grown in and what hairs I do have are really light blonde so most pencils don't work for me because they're too waxy to stick on my skin, but this is perfect! It comes in three shades all brown colors which is nice because it makes it look more natural than other colors they have on the market now! I would highly highly recommend this!!

Amanda, I'm definitely interested in trying that! Thank you! Sarah, I have a spinner ring that whenever I feel the urge (usually when I'm stressed, I even pull when I'm sleeping) I spin the ring and it gives my fingers something else to do. I can't really get over pulling exactly, which is probably why the hair doesn't grow back.

Thank you! This was a huge amount of help! I've never thought of it that way! I have really bad social relations with people, so are you saying that this could be a reason??

Thank you everyone! Your comments have helped! I'm definitely going to seek assistance. I have learned the right touch to drawing them on and a lot of people are shocked when I tell them they are drawn on. I don't know why I pull out eyelashes/eyebrows. It started with eyelashes and eventually when I pulled all of those out, I started on my eyebrows.

After I pull out an eyelash or eyebrow hair, I look at it and then rub it against my lips. Sometimes I want one hair, other times I want more. The most I can remember pulling out with one pull was 7 eyelashes.

Caity- I would deff say you should go to sephora and play with the product and let them apply it on for you to see if you truely like it before you commit, and even after you buy it you can always return it!! But I have tried powders, pencils, gels, waxes, markers, etc.and this is the one thing that I truely love- but it's taking me some time to get used to applying the product, shaping it, and getting it excactly how I want it (when it comes to my eyebrows, I'll spend so much time perfecting them even though I know they're sisters and not twins haha!) Now that being said, after reading what Jacqueline said I do have to tell you that when I was at school at Aveda, I learned a lot about hair- down to the bulb of the hair folicule. And I do want to tell you (which you probably already know!) that keep in mind the direction you pull your hair out, will matter emmensly because it can grow in that way permanently, or grow in curly/straight/finer/thiner due to damage of the cortex & bulb. Also be careful to try not to damage the dermal papilla- which is the very base of a hair folicule & what is so important about this, is that it contains receptors that are responsible for hair growth called androgens (which just regulates hair growth), so when the hair folicule is damaged down to the papilla there is a possibility that it will not grow back. However, most hair will come back in time & your body will heal/fix itself, but it can take 2-4 (or more) years for eyebrows and eyelashes to fully grow back- and this is without any other damage to the hair folicule, but hair in other places on your body can take years longer than that to completely heal and go back to normalcy, BUT in some cases- won't ever grow back like before- or at all :(
I don't know much about trichotillomania though, but I just figured I would tell you that because a lot of people think that if you pull your hair out it won't ever grow back- which is not the case! So don't stress about it too much, your eyebrows will probably grow back but will take a long time if you aren't pulling them out anymore! xoxo
