I own a few M.A.C. eye brushes and an angled blush brush. However I need a full set for school and thereafter. What would you recommend? Are Sigma brushes good enough? Are M.A.C. better? I want to invest in a really good set. TIA.

Your school doesn't provide supplies? Hmm. I suppose all don't but I think they'd at least give you a set. But honestly I would get a cheap set for school use. I may be paranoid in saying this, but at the school I went to (special effects makeup...so not the same but still, some kind of makeup school) we had a real problem with people stealing supplies from each other. They would even steal things from our teachers. So I wouldn't invest in anything super nice for school just because you don't know everyone, obviously. I wouldn't want to risk it, but maybe that's just me because of my experience lol.

I haven't tried MAC or Sigma brushes though. The set I got from my school was from Bh. The eye brushes have held up but the face ones are all shot after only a year. My favorite brushes are the Real Techniques brushes. I think they're great. They're synthetic, soft, well made and all come with very handy cases that can be turned into a stand. Most come in sets of 4-5 and sets are about $17. There's some that are sold individually too and they're usually about $10 and under. I also love them because they're very versatile. I use the one set I have for many different things, not just its intended purpose.
But if you want to go for the cheap brushes for school like I mentioned I'd go with e.l.f's studio line. They're $3 a piece. Perfect to learn with and not a big deal if someone nabs it.

My favorite brushes to use on set and on clients are from Royal & Langnickel. The Silk Line is my absolute favorite. You have the option of buying the natural or synthetic version of the brush.

I agree with Caitlin; for school, I would just pay for a decent brush set but invest in a much nicer set after you graduate (I adore Sigma, btw). I'm sure that not every beauty school has trouble with theft, but it seems to still be fairly common. We had to help replace my sister's kit three times because of the amount of theft going on and the teachers never did anything about it. So if you have to build your own kit, invest in nice quality supplies that -won't- become a financial hardship on you if they get taken and you have to replace them. Save the high quality supplies for your kit until after you've graduated.

They sell a set for 95$ of 10 brushes, OR I can buy my own. I was thinking I would rather buy nice ones to use after school rather than a cheap set and then still need to get a more expensive one, KWIM?
