Does it hurt & is it worth the pain? what's the difference between waxing & shaving.

It hurts so bad. my friend & I did it together, she has a tattoo on her ribs and she said the wax hurt more than the tattoo, but it's totally worth it, I have only gotten one and that was last summer & my hair still doesn't grow back as fast or as thick as it used to.
