I'm going to be an esthetician. What should I know before I become one to know if I have what it takes?

Its not what you should know because they will teach you everything you will need to know. Go with a open mind ready to absorb lots of information and definitely be prepared to be hands on. After a certain amount of hours you have attended your school you will get clients to perform on (facials, waxing, makeup of their choice) which prepares you for taking clients in a real job situation. Good luck!

I definitely agree with what she said. As long as you go in READY to learn & focus, you'll do fine. Just always remember to focus. It is a lot of information to take it in a short period of time (I'm not sure where you're located, but my class in California was 600 hours.). If it is what you want to do, you will enjoy school, you'll enjoy everything you learn..( even the anatomy& chemistry) I know that I did. It is a wonderful career choice is you're passionate about it! Good luck!

You have to be a people person and make sure your client is always happy. You may be having a bad day but you have to be cheery and nice to the customer. It's a lot of customer service and your talent. I would also say if you really love skincare and this career you'll make it far. Hope you become a great esthetician! Best of luck Hun.

Be open to anything. You will learn so many things about skin, hair and the body and things that you might have thought as gross might be what you're learning. I thought extractions were the grossest things and now I find them my favorite most satisfying thing to do! Have a good attitude and don't be afraid to talk. Being an esthetician is very much a customer service role so you will want to be personable to make your clients feel comfortable. And remember you will be expected to sell as in any other cs job so don't be surprised. Other than that just study hard and practice as often as you can! Hopefully you will love it, I know I did. :)

I really enjoy being an esthetician. at first it was a meant to an end (Makeup) then became much more. it's a caring thing to do and your intention is Crucially important. when you have caring intent to give your clients a relaxing experience with results they will reflect that love right back and you just might love your job. Not to mention the skincare knowledge will eventually make me an even better makeup artist.

Janet, me too! There is nothing quite like extracting a particularly large comedone. Except maybe pulling a wax strip with all roots ^_^
