Haha. I feel like a dork. I take petroleum jelly, almost-used up lipstick, and vanilla extract. I either use the stove or a candle. I scoop up the jelly, the lipstick, and the extract with a metal spoon, mixing it. Then I hold it over the heat source until it melts and pour it in a mint tin/old eyeshadow container. You can lighten "too dark" colors or mix colors really well this way. Plus it's more moisturizing!
