How to paint my nails?

I kinda bite my nails and I'm trying really hard to kick the habit. Anyways, I was wondering if I could get any tips on how to paint them because everytime I do it my nails end up messed up.

How do they get messed up? if it is smudging, wait longer for them to dry. If its chipping off, try a base coat and a top coat. Are you just unsteady? Slow down and use thin coats. :) also, practice makes perfect. I hope this helps.
