It looks like you're placing it on the apples of your cheeks while smiling. I think maybe you should try placing it higher on the face, along the actual cheekbones. It might emphasize your cheekbones more.

There's definitely many ways to wear it and I love how you did it on the apples of your cheeks. Very fresh! If you're not sure about applying it, make sure it's no closer than an inch from your nose on either side. If you want to accentuate your cheekbones more like Jen H. said which I think is a more classical look, then as she described, follow your cheekbone down in a shallow swoop near your temple down.
