I'm sorry I don't have any helpful advice for you, but I wanted to tell you that you look amazingly beautiful with your hair like that!

I love it! Such a beautiful sophisticated look!! But ok - to keep you out of the flat iron comb it dry before you shower, braid it loosely and was in braids. Let it dry in the braids. When it's completely dry (use a diffuser) take out and it will look crimped but much tamer. Try helping her on the healthy soft fluffiness over a certain 'look'
Also try sleeping with a doo-rag. (nylon cap with long ties) We have gotten them at the drugstore and sallies. Talk to a stylist who specializes in African American hair. A lot of products for white frizzies won't work because your hair isn't misbehaving, it's doing as nature intended and it's lovely.

I think you need to have a serious conversation with your mom about why she feels that you need to flat iron your hair. You should be proud of your natural texture, and constant straightening is in fact very damaging over time.
I think for your mom, it's probably a matter of looking polished so that you can be taken seriously...but I think you guys need to have a conversation about the fact that it's possible to look polished and still embrace your natural hair. There are lots of online forums (I think curly nikki is one) dedicated specifically to girls and women with your hair type who swear off straightening (chemical or manual) and I bet they have lots of ideas.
Personally, I've always thought the little pony-poof was super cute. To help with frizz, the only advice that I have is to start washing with conditioner only. Again, the forums I mentioned go into more detail about that.

I actually LOVE your hair just like that. Diana Ross pays thousands for hers to look half that good! However if you aren't allowed to wear it that way I suppose you need an alternative. I'm not sure if this will work for you but it worked for me when my hair was permed: at night when it's wet, put a leave in conditioner on it and pull it back like your going to put it into a high pony, but then twist it and wrap into a tight-ish bun, and use a fabric scuncii, sock, or rag to secure. While your hair dries it will fight the natural curl and come out smoother and slightly waved from the bun. If it is still to wild for mum, then it's a perfect prep stage for styling it. Goodluck!
