Mild skin discoloration from acne scars when I was a teen. I heard a light chemical peel would help..buut I'm not sure. Any advice on chemical peels or anything for a substitution?

A chemical peel can work wonders but if you are sensitive at all, it can cause some problems. I would suggest the Intensive C radiance peel from Murad. Vitamin C helps brighten, lighten, and tighten the skin and this peel helped even out my discoloring with continued use. :)

Also, if you start to treat the discoloration, remember SPF or there is really no point in treating.

Thank you soo much Kaleigh. I think my skin is sensitive so I will try what you suggested before I jump to a chemical peel:P
You are beautiful and thank you for your advice!:)

I have the Murad peel Kaleigh suggested and it is wonderful. I use 1-2 times a week...:-)

There are no actual studies on the subject at less than 35% acid (which is a low-level acid peel that you'd get from a dermatologist or aesthetician). 35% and up has been shown to be effective, but most over the counter products that contain (usually glycolic) acid are at around 6% or so.

They're probably still effective to some slight degree and I like using them (the Dennis Gross wipes are easy to use), but if you want very obvious, quick results I'd recommend getting a full peel.

One thing with a peel is that for about a month you will not look to pretty, as everything buried underneath the skin willbe coming up. Once the skin finishes healing, will look great.

They've worked really well for the clients I've had. As long as you follow the aftercare instructions it will be fine. However I would recommended a few microdermabrasion sessions before doing a chemical peel.

Sherelle it depends on the peel and the percentage. I've worked on many people where about a few days their skin has healed. Not all peels are the same.

sample blue plasma from Dr.Perricone at Sephora, it's the first peel that you can keep on all day, it's the best!! I've been using it and its done so much for my scars, dry skin, and rosacea!

Oh, I should add here that any kind of beauty-store peel you get (which, as mentioned, has a lower percentage of acid) is going to cost you almost as much as the treatment itself.

You can reasonably expect to get a 35% glycolic peel from a dermatologist for around $80 (depends on who you go to, I guess. You can always call their office and ask. They do have prices since cosmetic stuff isn't generally covered by insurance).

If you buy something from Sephora you're basically getting something that functions at a lower level for almost the same amount of money. I think the brazilian peel that's popular is what - $70 or so? You're not going to save money by buying the product. You're paying for packaging and marketing with those things. A dermatologist you're paying for a service.
