I hate going to a salon I feel like its so much cheaper you learn more about your hair and I always get better results at home ill tell you when going from dark to light you always will get an orangey color at first how light do you want to go? Go to Sally's get 30 vol developer and a natural blond color and work your way to the blonde you want slowly always wait two weeks between coloring your hair will always get damaged but as long as you get a deep conditioner and use heated styleing tools sparingly you hair will stay healthy also you always always need a purple shampoo and conditioner to rid any brassy tones caused by hard water

I just re bleached my hair to almost a white color and I tried the ion oil lightener with a 20 developer- I left it on for a half hour and then toned it after and my hair is not, let me repeat NOT damaged at all!! I'm going to keep lightening my hair with it forever its soo amazing. I do know people that have used higher developers with this like 30 &40 for a higher lift even though the box will tell you to use a 20 and make sure you deep condition before and after, don't wash your hair for a few days before bleaching and use a protein filler before you apply your bleach- this bleach in particular is infused with Argan oil which really helps and does not dry on your hair which if you know about bleach - just completely fries and depletes your hair of its natural oils and such. I've played around with a lot of bleaches and gotten my hair color cut at a Paul Mitchell salon which is possible!! Even professionals can boil your hair in the foil with bleach and heat! And also a good thing about the ion oil lightener is you can get it at any beauty supply store it's 8$ and it comes with two applications and one application makes over 6 fl oz of bleach which was plenty to do my shoulder length hair! Hope this helps! Xo.

I did the tips of mine myself and I was pretty worried about damage but my hair actually feels just as soft as it usually does. And the color turned out so cute! Not everyone noticed right away because it actually remained pretty natural looking.
Now people are going to scream about how I did it though... I made a mixture of baking soda and added hydrogen peroxide to about a paste consistency and to that added some conditioner. Worked it into the hair in sections wrapped in foil. It is kind of hard to gauge how long to leave it. I might recommend taking it out after 1-2 hours then repeating if necessary. The blog I found this in also recommended using a hair dryer to heat the foils after placing them.
Anyhow, not necessarily saying that is the most healthy option especially if you want to do your entire head. I might try it again for highlights myself. I was willing to do it because I was only doing the tips and am completely prepared to chop it off as needed.
