To help with the sores and the it itchiness you should use a tea tree oil based shampoo. You can buy the actual oil and mix it with your shampoo (they sell it in small bottles at any health food or drug store), or my favorite tea tree shampoo is Giovanni's Tea Tree Triple Threat. Hope this helps.

I agree with rachael! You need to take vitamins. Also try taking biotin, it is for healthy nail, skin and hair!

sarah, anxiety can take a form called tricholtilloma which is basically what u just described, stress can make hair fall out but if your pucking it and your scalp and hair roots are sore its probably trich, try nip it in the bud if it is.
vitamins and scalp massages and using cold water on it will help its strenght!:)

Doesn't sound like trich. Not unless she's pulling it out. Sounds more like allipecia (don't know how to spell it). Could jut be stress too. I'd use Nioxin shampoo.

Not to mention trich generally shows up right around puberty, not adulthood.

Defiantly recommend Nioxin shampoo system & vitamins also try not to focus on your anxiety. I know it hard to do trust me I've been down that road several times. I have mild anxiety but there was a time in my life when it was terrible. I would have full blown panic attacks at the drop of a hat, my hair started to thin because of it. It seems so hopeless, I worried about EVERYTHING. I started focusing all of that energy on other things, things that made me happy & every time I would start to worry or get panicky I would tell myself it was nothing to worry about & it would soon pass as it always does. I hope this helps a bit & I hope things get better for you <3

Therapy- go to the cause rather than treating symptoms. It's hard work, but it can change your life. You can also talk to your doc about anti-depressant/anxiety drugs.

I second what Erin says^ Trust me, I'm on meds, have a therapist= it makes a world of a difference and things get better! <3.

Trichotillomania is not something to take lightly...look for a therapist that specializes in compulsions...I battled it for years...treat what causes you to pick...getting your hair healthy doesnt matter if you're just going to pick it out

I would suggest take some action with your depression first and then it's going to be okay.

If you know it's caused by depression and anxiety, you should treat those, too. That should help with your picking, no? I have anxiety, I know that it can manifest itself in different ways, it's like your brain doesn't know how to cope and makes your body react in an irrational behaviour and makes you have irrational thoughts and fears.

You poor thing. I've suffered with depression and anxiety myself and it sucks.
The picking at your hair that you've described is a condition called trichotillimania. If you don't seek help for it now you could end up without any hair at all, and even start pulling out your eyelashes and eyebrows.
You can buy vitamin supplements especially for healthy hair, skin and nails. You don't need a prescription.
Please get professional help for this. Anxiety can rule your life if you let it, you must remember that you're strong enough to beat it.
Ask your pharmacist about a leave-in conditioner or something that you can massage into your scalp to repair the irritated spots.
Keep strong xxx
