Where did you hear this at? Do you have a link to an article or something to back this information up?

Just wondering, its always good to list a source when you post something, just so people know where its coming from. I haven't heard that before but then again I'm not trying to get pregnant lol. I Googled it and apparently there's a few other medications that have the same effect. I never would have guessed.

But it did say it was fine to take them for cramps, but if you're actually trying to get pregnant to stop taking them around ovulation so there's no interference.

Is your doctor crazy? Because it appears that he misread the information. People with endometriosis have futility problems. Sometimes endometriosis is characterized by horrible painful cramps..... These anti inflammatory drugs you have listed above would help the pain. However the "herbal remedies" are used to promote fertility in patients, not to prevent infertility. Anti inflammatory drugs not a problem for the average Jane who just gets bad cramps. Endometriosis is a medical condition. Painful cramps due to normal biological processes..... NOT so much! Take an advil, don't over do it cause t will cause other problems. pharmacist in training..... Fyi

According to most of the research, the infertility linked to NSAIDs (or non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) is reversible. And truly, it was wrong of your doctor to tell you to not take them without giving you more information. For people with really terrible cramps, advil, midol, or other OTC painkillers can be extremely helpful, and this is just fear-mongering. Taking advil will not permanently affect your fertility.

AS SOON as I know my period is starting, I take 1 naproxen sodium, drink it with chamomile tea, get a thermacare heat wrap/hot water bottle, and lie down. This prevents me from having to take any other medication the rest of the week, otherwise I'm having to take them and still doubled over in pain. NSAIDS can be dangerous for a lot of reasons, and are meant only to be taken in moderation when necessary. If any kind of pain can be managed without medication you're supposed to, but I would talk to your doctor again if your pain is overwhelming or distracting.

That's not true. Also, it just depends on the woman as well. We're all different :) Too much of anything can be bad. You shouldn't worry about avoiding pain killers. Sometimes you just really need some! :p

When i get stomach cramps i cannot stand up at all. I used all kind of medicines like advil, aleve, mydol and now pamprin. It seems like they have stopped working on me! No natter what i take it keeps on increasing. So now all i do is get some hot water with honey and piece of ginger in it. I use hot water bag to make my stomach warm. And helps a lot!!

I have bad menstrual cramps and what I do is that ( my mom taught me this) I put some red beans into a cotton bag and heat it up in the microwave to make it hot and nice. Then just put it on my belly. :) it works for me

^^^ she's right. It CAN lower fertility, she never said it does or that it's not reversible.

I hate all western medicine. It is making people weak and dependant. There are so many other options before reaching for a Tylenol or Advil. Sad that that is the first place most people turn to.

For me medicines dont work. so I generally have to keep hot plastic bottle over my stomach. So the pain goes away.

That's funny coz I have an 8 month old and I've been taking Advil, Motrin, ibuprofen, model, basic pain meds for cramps for 10 years and I got pregnant just fine. This is a good joke tho. Ladies this is false.. So, go ahead and take the meds you need. Birth control for too long decreases your fertility -__- not pain meds

If you're taking birth control, use the Nuva ring. I tried a million and two different birth controls for my bad cramps and the doctor switched me to the Nuva ring and they're not nearly a bad! Use a heating pad too. Don't do a lot of intense exercises.

This is probably the last thing you want to be doing but exercise helps! I usually just go on the wii fit (if I can be bothered) if not i just take ibuprofen and sit on the sofa with a hot water bottle :)

I have HORRIBLE cramps, I've had to stay home in bed because I couldn't get up before...that being said, Pamprin max is my best friend that time, it helps with everything...if you're willing to try a medication I advise using that for unbearable cramps.

bananas are a great way to give your body nutrients, one if which helps reduce cramping, I cannot recall which exact nutrient it is, potassium I believe... but bananas are just generally excellent for health anyways :D
