My question is about dark circles. Why can one person get them only when they haven't got enough sleep, but then another person (me) can be born with them. Are they different things, just look the same?

Some people are born with deep set eyes or protruding eyes. Deep set eyes can give the appearance of dark circles. I was told this by my Dermo Because people used to call me a raccoon and I tried everything to get rid of them. I just have to embrace my face and learn to love what god gave me.

They are different things. Dark circles from not sleeping enough are caused by stress, which causes your capillaries to sort of "leak." Much like a bruise. People that are born with them have genetics to thank.

Yeah!! And normal dark circles are caused by poor Circulation under the eye. There are ways to kinda hide both.

Dark circles tend to be a combination of things...Kaysey and Brittany nailed it. Thin skin can also contribute because you can basically see the veins underneath.

Basically all you can do is try to minimize it by constricting the blood vessels (caffeine works well for this purpose) and plumping up the skin a little to make it appear thicker. Eye cream is your friend. And concealer...ha.

some dark circles can be due to medical issues. I suffer from iron deficiency anemia as well as sinus allergies. I have been working on my anemia and have noticed they are getting lighter.

I have dark circles and dark inside corners of my eyes. If I drink lots of water and get good sleep they get a little better but they will never go away and never get much better than looking like I didn't sleep well. At worst they look like I got punched. But mine are cause by a genetic blood disorder which makes me pale and anemic and cold and dark circles and I get tired easier than most people.

Many peoples genetics developed in parts of the world that are very bright. From sand, snow, or proximity to the equator. It seems that nature favors darker pigment around the eyes probably because it helps to preserve sight longer that way under those conditions. Personally I like when the skin around the eyes is a bit darker on some people. From a Caucasian standpoint what would look haggard on me looks exotic on someone else. World art often depicts the dark orbits on history's most beautiful women and dieties alike. You're a beautiful woman and a talented artist, I would not focus on covering it up but explore how to make the most of it.

My dark circles get much more exaggerated when my allergies go untreated
