So I have been so busy this year that I wasn't able to join the sport that I usually do my first semester. I don't feel comfortable not doing any sports so I have chosen to do track and field to stay in shape. This is the first sport that I am doing that is based on running, so I am kind of nervous. I start conditioning and practice in less than a week. I would like to know any cardio or other exercises that I could do at home to get more prepared. Please be very specific because I am absolutely clueless about track. Please tell me about any other great tips that you know that would help me about diet, lifestyle, etc. that are good for running track. Also, what type of shoes should I buy for track? Thank you do much :)

I ran track in highschool for 4 years a looonnngg time ago. I ran the mile and two mile. Best advice I have to share is to stay well hydrated, eat a well balanced diet (do not skip breakfast) and stretch, stretch, stretch!!! There is nothing worse than having shin splints, torn ligments and numerous other ailments known to athletes. I was clueless first going in myself and not knowing what events you're set to do makes it kinda hard to give ya detailed tips because what might work for a 2 miler might not fly with someone running the 440. As far as shoes....please go to a store that specializes in running so they can appropriately fit for a shoe depending on your foot strike, width, etc. The folks at your local Footlocker or Champs aren't gonna know squat about running shoes unless they are a runner themselves and those folks are rare to find. Expect to spend anywhere from $50-100 bucks for a decent shoe. The best thing I loved about being on the track team is the deep friendships you develop over the course of the season. When I lettered my freshman year.....oh buddy...the joy of wearing your lettermans jacket is priceless. I'm so freakin excited for you gals Crystal and Diana. Just remember to have fun! xxxx

Pumas r a mexicans bestfriend so i say pumas 1 cuz they r very light and ur feet wont hurt now if u have wide feet get nikes

Nikes are cut on the narrow Izzy. New Balance is great for wide feet with a high instep. And why are you throwing race into the mix Izzy? Your statement was in poor taste.

^^^ agree. not cool. pregancy, diseases, emotional upsets, loss of respect from self, family, peers, but mostly self. Sex is NOT for exercise, it is for adults in seriously committed, emotionally and physically healthy relationships.
