Well Vaseline itself doesn't clog pores but I suppose with it being a barrier cream it won't allow your natural oils to come out of your skin. It's good for me, because my skins looking knackered and even though it gets shiny it feels really tight and dry as well so I think it's definitely dehydrated. Probably not so good for people who's skin is not so dry though. There are a lot of good reviews from people who use it though. I agree it doesn't sound like it would do your skin any favours but I really, really like the effects of it

Madi, that's an interesting article, alot of it made sense, also about the mineral powder.More reasons to stay away from petroleum jelly.

Well as a smoker it would be a bit silly of me to worry... Not that it stops me worrying anyway. I just read this one http://www.health-report.co.uk/petroleum_petrolatum_health_concerns.htm and it looks like the laws on it in Europe are pretty strict now anyway? But also it's found in 1 in 14 products on the market, so if I'm going down with vaseline related cancer, everyone else is coming with me lol

I just posted regarding the vaseline/cancer saga and now I can't see it... Is it there?

Lol Renni, I've used Vaseline on my nose when I've had a cold too, never thought about that

Tbh it's hardly worth worrying about the things they say can increase the risk of cancer because the amount of things that do increase your risk is ridiculous. We use that much man made crap that I bet there's a hell of a lot of things that aren't helping that they haven't even discovered yet. Even things as simple as being a man, being a woman, going out into the daylight etc increase our risks of certain cancers to some degree so we might as well just crack on with what we're doing

I've heard of celebs putting petroleum jelly under their eyes (Jennifer Aniston off friends) . If it works for you then go for it, I suppose there are risks involved with every product. There's a lot of information about petroleum jelly on the net but unfortunately most of it has no evidence backing up what they are saying . Personally I think there are better product to use to moisturize your face that have passed testing and are designed specifically for your face. This is a topic that needs to be investigated using evidence based sources (journal articles and meta-analysis) which I unfortunately don't have whilst I'm on break from Uni . But hey if it works for you then that's great :) I just think people need to know all the info and research it before putting it on their own face

If you're looking for intense hydration I'd look into an oil like coconut, argan, etc. It will provide a lot of hydration without the risk. I have oily/combination skin and it doesn't break me out or clog my pores. I've seen a huge difference in my skin's health since I started using maracuja oil as a nightly moisturizer. And its thinner and not as greasy feeling. I would highly recommend looking into it. You can go high end or get a smaller, organic brand which will be cheaper for pretty much the same product.

Well, even at twice the length they are now they still wouldn't really be long lol, so it's not worth worrying about that anyway tbh :p

Unfortunately Madi there isn't nearly enough empirical scientific studies on beauty products or remedies. What few things are published are vague and often alarmist: "Vaseline causes cancer!" "There's lead in lipstick!" etc. There needs to be a significant scientific discussion about the products that people are using on their face and body.
Also, I wouldn't be put off just because it is banned in the EU; the EU has banned several things that other major nations/unions have deemed safe and vice-versa. A lot of product bans are more politically/economically motivated than consumer safety concerned.

I do this too, sometimes I don't even wash my face after! It absorbs right into my skin and leaves it soo soft! I love it!

It doesn't seem to really get all over the pillow. I'm sure it does, but not noticeably cos its clear and hasn't got much of a smell. Maybe lay a towel or something over your pillow? And put your hair up!

Y'all are asking for some mighty breakouts if you do this.

It doesn't make me break out. I always have a few little spots but it doesn't make them any worse, I'd say if anything they're a bit better. It's non comedogenic which means it doesn't block pores. It's just forms a barrier that protects your skin, I can't see why that would be a bad thing. If it doesn't work for some people then it doesn't, but it does for me and for a lot of other people. The people who say its a bad idea are normally people who haven't tried it anyway cos they think its gonna make you break out x

you guys.. it is a total myth that it clogged your pores! if you put a moisturizer on before Vaseline it will lock in the moisture.... it won't make you super oily and wot clog anything
