Petroleum jelly as a night cream!

I have combination skin. sometimes oily other times dry. I had moderate acne as a teenager, now I'm 25 still have occasional acne. I started using petroleum jelly on my face at night after washing and moisturizing. It worked wonders for me! I have marks (not scars) from the bumps over the years, dark circles and the bump or two I seem to keep majority of the time. I was terrified the first night but considering my skin was already terrible I decided I didn't have much to lose. When I woke up the next morning I was completely happy with my face without makeup! That is saying a lot for me, I'm so insecure with my bare face. My skin was more even, the bumps I had were smaller, and my whole face looked plumped like younger skin. I suggest it! it does not make my face oily, actually it seems to balance it out between dry and oily. I look crazy at night, my face slicked over and my hair pulled back lol. Nothing cute about it. I wash, moisturize (olay prox or L'Oréal revitalift I think it's called) fan my face dry a little then take a small amount of petroleum jelly rub between my hands to warm it up so it spreads easier without pulling the skin to much. my under eye area seems plumper too, so the dark circles have gotten dramatically better!

It actually won't break out your skin because Vaseline is non-comedogenic, which means it won't block your pores.

Really helps with the thin skin under the eyes and with dark circles under the  eyes.

I had horrible cystic acne and tried everything prescription and commercial that money could buy...4-6 months with each product regime, every dermatologist suggestion, and every infomercial or consultant that made me empty promises...it would sometimes get better but just end up coming back with vengeance. As a result of tormenting my skin with all those products and medications, my face was raw, dry, dreary, and drab. You know what made it completely stop? Nutrition first of all...daily I take cod liver oil with a and d vitamins, night of primrose oil, zinc, amino acid supplements, and selenium...watched my diet trying to stay away from processed foods, refined sugar and carbs, and drink lots of water (all of which we should be doing anyway for every health benefit)..,that cleared up my acne for the most part but my skin was still drawn, dry, and lifeless...no matter how much moisturizer I put on it. So I tried my grandmas simple beauty technique. After washing my face at night (plain old African black soap) and applying a small amount of moisturizer, I apply a thin layer (very small amount) of petroleum jelly and I could tell a difference the first night. In the morning I wash and wipe my face with toner (origins) and that removes any traces of the petroleum jelly left behind. After a couple weeks my skin was supple, fresh, bright, and the fine lines were going away and the scars were getting lighter...my skin was HEALING from all the damage done by the acne and the products...even the pitted scars aren't as prominent...probably because the moisture my skin retains has made the skin more plump. Anyway...the derm doctors are not going to tell you to be sure you are getting the right nutrients and not to eat processed or refined products that are toxins to your body (then they would be nutritionists not drs...and won't get paid by pharmaceutical company's to prescribe their meds) and they certainly aren't going to recommend a product that only costs a few bucks and they won't make any money off. So what happens when a product really works and everyone realizes that their poor diet and lack of nutrition is the cause of their horrible skin?! Well, the billion dollar skin care industry is out of business, that's what. So it's best you do the research. My grandma and mom never had these skin care issues...but they are far more healthy in general and used very little consumer driven products...and going to the dr was a last resort...they used simple products like petroleum jelly...I don't ever remember either of them having skin problems like I did...and now I don't either! Acne and bad skin is a SYMPTOM!! You have to fix the problem, not the symptom of the problem. Listen to your body and use your brains

My sis has been using Vaseline on her face only at night for quite some time and was told by a derm that it's actually beneficial and a good moisturizer. It cannot clog your pores because the molecules in Vaseline are too big to sink in. I haven't tried it but she swears by it.

No it won't because olive oil doesnt, coconut oil doesnt. and I think I'd know seeing as how I use both of those on a regular basis.

I'm not concerned about the cancer thing... because I tan! I believe it's bad for you for other reasons. I've watched it literally strip my fake tan off of my skin. I used to shave with baby oil and that's really just mineral oil, it literally takes dha (the ingredient that makes you look tan) right off. to me, that's not a product I want to use!

Haha yeah, you're right, I am. Every time I come back to this thread I see 'ewww it'll block your pores' or similar. READ THE THREAD!! Haha. I also don't know where most of the people that say that get the idea from anyway.
People do keep saying they know of all these wrinkle free women who's secret is petroleum jelly though which is nice to know... Fingers crossed for being one of those ladies!x

It may work but I wouldn't recommend it because petroleum really isn't that good for your skin.

I do the same thing! Well I actually use Vaseline as a makeup remover, it does wonders! And then I just leave the leftover petroleum jelly on my face. When I wake up, I agree with you! My skin feels like a cloud of softness 😍

Will generic Vaseline work? Or just normal no brand petroleum jelly?

That is too funny I can't wait to show that to my hypochondriac cousin

@Tiffany you're right. Everything is bad from you. I'd say half the people that are saying it'll give you cancer have used a sun bed at some point, or smoked a cigarette... Drank diet coke, got sunburnt... Taken the pill. So many things. In fact, watch this video about things that can give you cancer, it's actually hilarious http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fFfWykH05Gw x

Lola, you can't say that cos you haven't tried it. The only people saying it will give you bad skin are the ones that haven't tried it... Honestly, it makes your skin feel lovely. I'm not saying you have to try it, but if you're curious you shouldn't worry. It's non comedogenic, which means it won't block your pores :) x

My grandmother and all of her sisters have been slathering Vaseline on their faces for 50+ years and people constantly ask them if they have had work done

And as far as petroleum causing cancer...everything I love in life is bad for my health everyone's going to die eventually that's a fact...

I raid my sisters giant tub of "baby" vaseline-when she gets a new one-it's petroleum free and she buys it from some online natural baby site. Sorry-don't know the name-but do a google search...but I use it maybe 2-3 times a week cause my skin is sooooo dry! Never get breakouts and my skin is super soft next day! Don't use too much-just a thin layer. I swear by it too!
