Get a back combing brush instead of a comb if that's what you use. Start by blow drying or heat setting your hair in the opposite direction it will eventually fall (towards your forehead for standard volume look and towards the opposite side if the head for the edges of the crown.) anyhow then starting at the point closest to the face raise a section of hair (spray now if you want to use spray, I really really love Big Sexy Hairs Tease in a Can) anyhow take the brush about two inches from the root and *insert it into section, push down. you don't want to tangle the hair just, super fluff it. fully remove the brush from the hair by pulling out, not back up. Repeat from * when satisfied lay it forward and grab the next small section and repeat working small sections. your hair will look super big and crazy. That's ok. when all is teased, lay it back where its suppose to be and gently smooth the visible outer part. Do not brush to deeply, you will just undo the teasing, but smooth over completely so the teased part isn't visible. Finish with a healthy dose of hair spray if desired and you think it necessary. Also unless your hair is Über greasy, it works best on not freshly washed hair. ;) good luck!

Take the section of hair and spray the roots first with dry shampoo then back comb it
Before letting it down spray hairspray and let the hair down and style it and shape it
Then spray it again
If that doesn't work try a bump it :)
Or a sponge roller curler thing

Tip your head upside down, spray it, back comb it gently and then spray it a bit more. It seems to work well with less back combing than it would the right way up. So it's better for your hair and its all fun and games :)
