after a fit of trichotillomania (pulling out hair) I have two patches of hair that grows literally like nothing ive seen before... hard to describe, but like the letter 'S' over and over.. an awful nothing colour and worstly it wont straighten or take water on it...
any tips on straightening out hair without heat?

Why don't you see a doctor or hairdresser about it? Or, you can get hairdryers with an attachment so that it blasts out a line of air, good for straightening out wavy hair while drying.

I have it too and I know what you mean. I usually just pull my hair up and that solves my problem. I used to wear bandanas when it got really bad. Such a pain! I keep my hair super blonde so my thin spots don't show but man how I want red hair.

I took risperidone for it in highschool and it went away completely but I stopped taking it years ago. It's better than it was that's for sure.

If found that if hair is pulled out at the roots and grows back it tends to grow in a certain direction and not the way it was before. Sadly, i dont believe you can do anything about it except find a way to style and work with it. Like jennifer suggested either getting a hairdryer with a concentrator or going to a hairdresser. Hope you find a solution. I have a patch of hair similar on my hairline that now grows like a cowlick :(

I actually know a lot of people who have it, it's quite common in women.
