About Me
I’ve long spent a disproportionate amount of my income on clothes and beauty products. I blame my politically correct mother who never let me have a Barbie doll (cue violin music here). Instead of Glamour Barbie, I unwrapped trucks and Meccano sets at Christmas time. I’m sorry, mum, but neither of those toys came with accessories.
Fast-forward way too many years later and I’m working as a journalist on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. I volunteer to do the fashion section of the newspaper in my spare time, then manage to make it part of my job description (clever move) and end up putting my hand up to edit the paper’s then Saturday magazine. I coordinated shoots, styled a few models and realised that maybe, just maybe, I could dress “real” people for a living.
That’s when Styling You was born. In 2008, I said goodbye to journalism after 20 years, set up an office in the corner of my lounge room, and started blogging in between sorting through people’s wardrobes and taking them shopping. Yes, sorry again mum, I get to play Barbies every single day. Dream life, huh?
Why the blog? There’s a lot of info and advice out there … I want to make it easier for you to see which fashion or beauty trends are right for you. There is so much information out there in the fashion and beauty arena, that I don’t blame you if you don’t know where to even start. That’s where I am (hopefully) here to help. Yes, it’s such a tough job but I’m willing to go out on a limb for you and edit down a bit of the style information overload out there.
If it’s new on the beauty counter and I think you should give it a go, I’ll trial it (or a guest blogger will) and let you know whether it’s worth spending your hard-earned cash on. And if it’s a new fashion trend landing in a chain store or boutique near you soon, I’ll let you know whether to steer very clear or embrace it immediately. I’ll give you my two cents worth on how to style it up for certain events and occasions and, if you’ll have me, I’ll happily speak about my favourite subjects to your organisation or company.
