Mr. Shu Uemura

I was in Tokyo in the summer of 1989 with my sister on a business trip for four days, at which point we went on three weeks of art tours throughout the countryside of Japan. I was lucky enough on the first night to sit with the wife of the Director of Marketing and Sales of Asia, my Sister was his counterpart in Northern and Southern United States and sat with him. I ended up as a guest being seated by the husband of the host and enjoyed talking to her about building their dream house in Tokyo which I had JUST done in Louisville. During our conversation she asked if I would like to see a Japanese Tea Ceremony and I was so thrilled I practically jumped in her lap because as a child I wore a Kimono that my Mother's friend brought back for me after her trip. The very next day after our dinner, I arrived at the Ceremony and was the only female guest. Mr. Shu Uemura was doing the makeup on the two geishas. After the ceremony was over I asked if he could give me tips on colors for my skin tone and also tools. He was so sweet that he took me by my arm and escorted me to his store and the first tool was the eyelash curler which he demonstrated for me. So I bought it and several beautiful handmade brushes and a supply of color for the summer and fall. I am so lucky to have had him as my guide to color and how to put it on to look at its best. I miss him greatly because each year I ordered two sets of colors for the spring/summer and fall/winter which I continued and wrote to him about KY since he was curious about my life. I ofter had pictures made so that he could see my house which to a Japanese person was a museum because they only have a small one room bedroom, kitchen/living room/dining room plus their one ofter very lovely bathroom with a large tub for bathing. So there you have a very exciting way of buying the most respected eyelash curler!

Baume de Rose is a Rose of a different color that makes faces glow

I could barely contain myself having heard the cult view of By Terry; the main product being Baume de Rose, which is thick and wonderful and makes your lips and fingernail beds and cuticles feel glorious especially a few hours after it has had time to sink in various areas. I have never used a product that makes my lips feel so smooth. I have a terrible habit of biting my lips and cuticles so I'm hoping this cures that with tissue to smooth to bite. I'm also hopeful that my lips will get a bit of plumping up, since age has made them thinner. I see that someone else, who has reviewed this product, uses it on her eye contour area, so I will, of course, follow suit and see how that works for me but as a lip balm and nail bed balm it absolutely can't be beat. Now if you are like I was, the product had left the gate running high with the fillies who rose earlier in the day than I did and I was left out in the cold waiting for the new lovely little jars to come back into the lineup so if that happens to you don't fret because they must have fairies bringing cases over from France since I only waited about ten days until my notice came over email to buy, buy, buy! And so I did and I am so happy with this densely packed creme with goodies to make everything better. Our hands and lips are the first give away of a woman's age so I'm counting on this Rose to turn back time for both.

The Terry Hyaluronic blush in Peach Posh

This was one of the two items By Terry that I purchased the very first day her extraordinary makeup and beauty creams came on line, I had a tip she would be up soon but it wasn't soon enough for me! I had slept in that day and missed the opening gate to the filly's goodies, so one of the products I wanted had sold out but I was able to buy it in a tube form with a lovely applicator tip of soft sponge but this blush was my MUST HAVE and I GOT IT! When the package arrived from Beaytylish I tore into it and washed my face, next applied a sample creme that Alicia had sent when I purchased my fabulous Chikuhodo Brush Set of Seven handmade brushes made in my favorite town in the world; Kyoto, Japan. This is the most fantastic blush I have ever used! It looks like I just took a brisk walk in the fresh air and my cheeks turned a healthy shade NOT like make up. I am so thrilled that I plan to order some for my best friends for Christmas but I will do that soon because all the good products get back ordered and I want to talk to Alicia and see if Beautylish will put each in a little suede bag like the large one I received with my first BIG order! So I plan on ordering more products for me on Tuesday since I have to go to the dentist on Monday plus the workmen on our new windows are coming today too so that will no doubt will take the rest of my time, and unfortunately make up and holiday gifts will take a backseat to the house projects and dentist. If you're thinking of trying any beauty products By Terry this blush is a MUST or you will be missing out on what I plan to scoop up in large quantities as soon as I can so you best beat me to yours! You really don't want to miss out on this blush, and I'm not kidding about scooping up for my best friends Christmas gifts!

Magic Baume de Rose Crystalline in convenient tube form!

I couldn't wait to have "By Terry" reach our shores and in particular had heard that Baume de Rose Crystalline, a cult classic, would finally be for sale but on the first day here it had already sold out in the jars so once I saw the tube form i thought I would buy it until the jar was restocked and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this tube with its soft sponge applicator plus is small enough, but not as small as American products of similar type, to go in any of my purses. So I keep it in my bed purse and use it on my mouth several times a day plus on my fingernail cuticles after my nightly bath. The Rose scent is delicious and the product is thicker than any other lip plumper I have ever used so it stays on longer! I'm totally happy with this product and HIGHLY recommend it!

  • Sin

I bought both Sin and Love Nudestix Lip and Cheek Pencils

After reading the first review of the pencils I was ready to pick two colors so I went with Love and Sin because they are different enough to be useful for any evening event (Sin) or day (Love). They came to my surprise in a good size metal case that is an avant guard matt finish. And inside of each box was one pencil with a sharpener plus a mirror in the lid. So I put the two together in one box to save room in my makeup drawer. I commenced to play with Love first since it was the lighter color and made both the apples of my cheeks going into my hair line a perfect shade for daytime. The plus is the use of the same pencil to make my lips match and I did put a lipgloss in a very similar color over Love. I then moved on to Sin and was so excited to see the flush it created on my face as I put it on the apples of my cheeks and on into my hairline both on my cheek area and above my eyes as I blended over to the side of my face. I next found a color of gloss that practically matched the pencil so I used the pencil first on my lips and then applied the gloss. If I had been going out that evening the case would have been the perfect container to take both the Sin colored pencil and one of my lip glosses that comes in a long, rather thick applicator. I can't wait to buy a few more colors since these Nudestix are so perfect for me. I adore that they go on so easily that it's almost as a fairy had touched my face in all the areas I used either color. Plus the sticks are creamy so they blend well into the skin on my cheeks into the hairline both above my ears and over my eyes. If you haven't tried these pencils you're really missing out so don't be left behind! You can tell the most popular colors if you just scroll through and notice which are back ordered. I will promise you that Beautylish is wonderful about getting to you as soon as the product is back in stock so you can buy before it goes back out of stock.

The Chikuhodo Passion Series Seven Brush Set

In 1989 I bought my first fine brush set in Tokyo and have both used and abused it every since that day. I was fortunate to purchase this fine set from the renowed Mr. Shu Uemura, who had just opened his first store in Tokyo, and offered to not only show me the best brush set for my purposes, but did my makeup, so I ended up buying my makeup from him for years for every change of season until he opened the Shu Uemura website in recent years. It wasn't easy to buy overseas but to me it was worth it. And today is the first day I have washed that set to lovingly retire it to make room for my new Chicuhodo Passion Series Brush Set of seven perfect brushes for each area of my face or for each type of makeup I'm going to be applying. It even comes with a lipliner brush that is small and spring loaded so it is perfect for my tiny evening bags. These brushes rival the ones I bought in Japan but are made with more care because they don't shed, which was an issue with the other set that drove me a bit crazy since after I put on my makeup, using the mirror over the bathroom sink, I hated the cleanup of brush hairs, right before I was going out the door, with my perfect face on. The other option was to leave it as a welcome home gift that was a bit like my cat leaving me a hair ball in the sink. I am so impressed with the lovely badger hairs with their perfect shape made by the artisans at Chikuhodo with the ferrules almost becoming a part of the handle because it has the same metal covering and color but is obviously well enough made to hold the badger hairs in place for any makeup application. Lastly, is the bright fuchsia handles, with a matching case that has an obvious place for each of the seven brushes. The first day this set arrived I washed my face and took out my favorite makeup, and proceeded to apply it. I had trouble focusing on the application of the colors because I was to enthralled with the brushes. So I bagged the rest of my makeup, since I was not going out that day or night, and continued to tickle my fancy with these brushes. I ran them over my face, neck, décolletage and arms. I stopped before I got to my breasts since I hadn't taken my daily bath that early in the day. I had too much fun to consider it legal, but legal it was and still remains each time I pull out my brush kit, to either play or get ready for a play, ballet production or the symphony. And I love to pull out my lip liner brush at parties because it gets even more attention than I do and that's quite a bit because I like to be the center of attention at parties. Even men seem interested in the lovely lip brush. They like the mechanics of how once I take the cover off, it extends for use and clicks down to be safe once the top is put back on! Needless to say I am so sold on these brushes that I would be willing to give out my telephone number, so a prospective buyer could ring me up and hear the excitement in my voice as I talk about the brushes. My all time favorite thus far is the blush brush, I am able to put on a color base, then contour and lastly apply the POP of color on the apples of my face. My second is the eye color brush since it too is perfect for flooding my lids with a basic color, and build upon that until I have the right eye makeup for either day or night. Sometimes my husband sees that I haven't put as much color on one eye as the other so he offers to use my new brush to fix that issue. My third most favorite is the big, fluffy powder brush which I can get into every area of my face to apply a scant dusting of my fairy irradescent powder. I am doing one thing that I did NOT do with my last set and that's clean up the brushes before I put them to bed. I use a very soft rag which I simply wipe the color off on and once a week I am using my left over Shu Uemura brush cleanser to wash all the products out of each brush. I think that once a month is enough but I'm having fun so far babying these new wonderful additions to my life. If you don't have a good set of brushes and you're looking I HIGHLY recommend this set. It's beyond perfection for the use of each brush. They are also so beautiful that using them is a real visual treat.

The PUURRRFECT lip liner for anyone.

I asked my favorite Sale's Associate at Beautylish what she recommended for me to use for a lip liner. I had never used one before and at age 60 I thought it was time. I got this lovely stick and filled in my lips and of course the line and that is one look but the easiest is to put on my lipstick and then use this liner to just go over the edge of the lipstick. I love the fact that it truly does keep the lipstick on for eons longer and the color is purrrfect (my cat says so). I highly and really don't often say highly but in this case I really do highly recommend this product for any and ALL.

Truly Cellestial

When I first came to the Beaytylish website, I noticed this one product was perpetually sold out and now after buying and using it I know why, it's sublimely beautiful! I think it can make even dull skin look full of stars but thankfully my skin isn't dull! I don't know what the magic fairly dust is that they press into a sweet little evening size compact, which you can surely take everywhere, but this might have been what Tinker Bell wanted Wendy to use to go after and catch Peter Pan. Had she worn this Peter might have stayed for as long as he had rather than fighting pirates! There are no pirates in this twinkling star struck compact!

Two Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream

I had read some awesome reviews about this product line and in particular the lip creams. So i put my big toe in by buying the first color that was not too pale and not too bright. It's almost the shade of my lips on a good day when I have had lots of sleep and am able to put this lipstick on without having to use a liner but just using it to brighten my natural lips. The La Creme is for sure the CREAMIEST of lipsticks I have used so I will be back for several more that I have already tagged for me. I will call my favorite helper at Beautylish, Alicia. If you aren't sure of what will look good on you she's your "go to" cosmetologist and artisan. I adore her as much as the products so don't skip talking to her for help.

Make my blue eyes bluer and sexier!

This is my maiden voyage into Charlotte Tilbury's Luxury Palettes. I only bought one palette and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! It makes my gray/blue eyes much bluer and oh so sexy. But I can even use this set for daytime with just two of the colors and ramp it up as the day to night ramps up. If you haven't tried this new line of products from the UK do so because the American' products are great too but you're just going to be blown away by the texture, creamy feel and staying ability of this Palette. Im going back for more as soon as I pay off the huge bill from the Palette but more the Japanese set of brushes. The are an exceptional value and will last the rest of my life if I take the time to take good care of them.
