J.Lo Convinced Me To Try Kevyn Aucoin’s “Lightbulb” Technique

Contouring really is the gift that keeps on giving—just when I think I’ve nailed it, there’s a new technique to learn. Most recently? Kevyn Aucoin’s “lightbulb” technique that J.Lo swears by.

With her glowing complexion and snatched features, it doesn’t take much convincing to give any of her tips and tricks a try. Lucky for you, this one’s tried, true, and doesn’t take much extra effort.

After applying contour a little above the cheekbone to lift the face, she shades around her hairline, forehead, and of course, jawline. Here’s the trick originally shared by the late, great Kevyn Aucoin— Jennifer Lopez’s first celebrity makeup artist—after applying contour to the jawline, she extends it down the center of her neck, under her chin. This darkens the area right under the chin to distract from it and avoid any unwanted attention.

Bonus: She also traces her lips with the contour for a pouty effect (that isn’t meant to replace lip liner).
