Some brands are built from market research; bod beauty was built from longing.
When Founder Ru Rumack launched bod beauty, she wasn’t chasing a trend. She was chasing something harder to name: the feeling of being fully at home in her own body. “At its core, I was longing to come home to myself,” she says. “To feel fully connected to my body and my true nature again.”
That process of reclamation, of returning to herself after a period of disconnection, sparked a realization that would become the brand’s north star. She began to question the beauty industry’s fixation on the face. “The face mirrors how we’re conditioned to live almost entirely in our heads,” she says. “But our power doesn’t come from staying in the mind. It comes from inhabiting our whole selves.”
The Venice Influence
The brand’s philosophy is inseparable from its birthplace, Venice Beach, where Rumack lives. Living near the shore in minimal clothing and immersed in nature shifted her relationship with her own skin. She began to see the body as something to celebrate rather than conceal. That shift from hiding to adornment, from self-consciousness to sensuality, became the emotional blueprint for bod beauty.
Venice also deepened her connection to ritual: crystals, breathwork, lunar rhythms. “That blend of freedom, wildness, sensuality, and grounded ritual became the heart of bod,” she says.
Ritual Meets Formulation
bod beauty’s debut offering, the Aura Glow Balm-to-Oil, is designed less as a product and more as a practice. Every sensory element is intentional. Scent anchors the ritual because, as Rumack points out, fragrance is processed through the brain’s emotional centers before rational thought ever kicks in. Its texture demands presence as the balm melts into oil on contact, requiring you to slow down and feel.
And the glow “mirrors the radiance you’re cultivating internally,” she says. “It’s playful, sensual, and bold.”

The formula is also infused with three crystals to support both your energy and glow: clear quartz to amplify intention and radiance; moonstone to calm stressed or reactive skin by supporting intuition, feminine rhythm, and hydration; and green tourmaline to open the heart, move stagnant energy, detoxify, and boost circulation. “Together, they create a balanced energetic field within the formula, supporting not only luminous skin, but also aiding in the reconnection to self.”
This is Just the Beginning
Rumack is candid that she’s building toward something beyond beauty counters. In five years, she envisions bod expanding into SPF, tanning oils, and fragrance-forward evening products, following the body across its different moments, from sunlit beaches to intimate evenings.
“Success for me is seeing a community of people who feel genuinely at home in their bodies,” she says. “People who are reconnecting with themselves, celebrating their form as it is, and showing up with confidence and freedom.”
For a beauty industry often fixated on correcting or concealing, that’s a quietly radical proposition. bod beauty isn’t asking you to look different. It’s asking you to show up fully as yourself.
“Ultimately, I hope bod supports a journey of coming home to yourself more fully, layer by layer, until you discover the magic that already exists within you.”
