Trendy drinks come and go (remember when beet lattes were a thing?), but one that’s never left my daily rotation is golden milk. Golden milk (aka turmeric tea) is a sun-colored beverage made with coconut milk, turmeric and other warming spices you probably already have in your kitchen.

Golden milk is really easy to make, and the combination of cinnamon, ginger and black pepper adds a cozy, spicy taste. You can drink it at any time of day (it’s caffeine-free), but I especially love a mug of golden milk right before bed—something about the warmth and spiciness helps me wind down after a stressful day.

The turmeric in this simple concoction gives it potent anti-inflammatory powers, Research shows that turmeric is best absorbed by the body along with black pepper and some fat, so I like to use full-fat coconut milk. I also add a scoop of grass-fed collagen peptides to support healthy digestion, joints, skin and nails (you can leave it out if you want to keep it vegan-friendly). So without further ado, read on for my super-simple golden milk recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened coconut milk

  • 1 tsp ground turmeric

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • Pinch of black pepper

  • Honey or maple syrup to taste (optional)

  • 1 scoop collagen peptides (optional)

Whisk all ingredients in a small saucepan. Simmer on low for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour into a mug and serve.
