Drugstore Line We Love: Nuance Salma Hayek

579

In case you didn’t know, Salma Hayek has a makeup, skin, and hair line at CVS and...it’s awesome. It really is.

Launched in 2011, Nuance Salma Hayek is the impossibly gorgeous actress’s first foray into the beauty industry, and it’s a huge line, with around 100 products! Hayek says she was inspired to make her own cosmetics because of her grandmother, a cosmetologist who was known for making homemade beauty products. Every Nuance product is paraben-free, cruelty-free (no animal testing!), and is full of high-end botanicals like shea butter, calendula, blue agave extract, and Tepezcohuite (or mimosa bark extract)—and reasonably priced (starting at $5.99 for lip gloss and nail lacquer).

We tried a whole host of products from the line, exfoliating and hydrating, and slathering on serums, lipsticks, primers, and eyeshadows. Guess what? There wasn’t a loser product in the lot! Totally impressed! The minimalist packaging is made of recycled material, giving everything a chic, spa-quality feel. Love it! Here are a few of our absolute favorites.

Front & Center Concealer & Brightener

$10.99

Okay, just what the hell is in this dual-ended under eye concealer and brightener—magic? On one end is a full-coverage, heavy-duty stick-concealer, and on the other end is a liquid brightener with a little brush. With four shades, ranging from “light” to “deep,” this product is my new favorite for banishing dark circles. Obsessed. Obsessed.

Smooth Start Skin Primer

$11.99

Helloooooo, you perfect, perfect primer. You only need a little drop to cover your whole face, but it gives skin a velvety feeling that lasts all day. And like any primer should, it smooths things out to make a nice base for makeup, and is inexpensive for the quality. Yay!

Color Vibrance Lipstick

$9.99

This lipstick has a nice, creamy-feeling texture—when I wear it, I can't help but think it's the definition of “lustrous.“ Not super shiny but not matte, it feels rich on the lips, is formulated with vitamin E, and stays on for several hours. Our favorite shade is Paprika, which is a deep, almost-burgundy red that feels right for fall.

Walnut Facial Scrub

$7.99

Super-finely crushed walnut shells and acai, annatto seed, and babassu oils make this scrub feel luxurious on the skin, not gritty or gloopy. Use it at night a few times a week before going to bed with a thick moisturizer for smoother skin! A little goes a long way, leaving skin softer and brighter, and it smells slightly nutty and flowery—nothing at all like when you were 15 and scrubbing your face raw with St. Ives. You know what we’re talking about.

My Secret Super Moisturizing Body Cream

$14.99

We love this cream because it does what it promises, deeply hydrating skin in a way that lasts the entire day. However, it's thick, which means it takes a little elbow grease to get it to absorb completely. Also, the scent is nice at first, but can be a little strong if you’re covering your whole body with it (it smells, in the words of a friend, “like the shower products at an expensive chain hotel”). But the results are worth it, as it’s winter, and winter means itchy dry skin. And I haven’t had any of that since using this stuff.
