Well we're kinda small too and we've had a channel for a few months the only thing we can say is to have shortish videos because people won't sit aroud for over 10 mins because they'll just get bored, be yourself is really important people don't wanna see someone that they wouldn't see if they met you in real life. Try to be original if everyone is doing the same kind of video step out of the box a little and try something different your individuality will get you noticed, Lastly rather than telling everyone COME WATCH MY VIDEOS just get commenting on some videos of people you sub to you don't really need to mention your videos because at the end of the day people will notice you and you'll get more subs, and when you talk to other gurus they might give you a shout out or something so you get more subs, or but you in a video like the what i love about you tag, also if your just starting don't expect to get loads of subs fast because it will never happen because there are SO MANY Gurus out there.
Really hope this helps you
loads of love

Whatever you do, don't comment on people's pages saying "I'll sub for a sub!" or something to that effect because that personally, those are the people I ignore because I know they don't really care about my channel and what I have to offer, they just want to increase their subscriber count. Beautylish is a great way to gain exposure, and start discovering new gurus that you really like, then go on their page and just tell them how much you like their stuff, etc. Don't bother them to check out your channel because that can be a turnoff for many. If you consistently watch their videos and comment on them, they will notice and if they truly enjoy your channel, they'll subscribe. Creating friendships online is important because that is how you start getting more exposure. Also, if you are truly talented, you will get noticed.
All that being said, don't just be doing this just to get a bunch of subscribers. Do it because you truly have a passion for making videos, etc. Leesha of xsparkage made a video recently on the do's and don'ts for new beauty gurus. I hope this helps and I apologize for this long novel of a post lol!

i have only 4 or 5 videos and a lot of subscribers and i'm never ever on youtube and never promote my youtube. i have a lot of subscribers, and get new subscribers every day because i keyword the heck out of my videos. use popular keywords that you think a lot of people will search for (as long as it pertains to your video)

I just reached 100 subscribers today (YAY!) So I feel like my advice might count.... =]

Mainly, I reply to comments. Not only comments on my own videos but comments on others as well. I like to read comments on videos from popular gurus and reply to questions. Quite often bigger gurus don't have time to answer everything so I try to give advice. If the person likes your advice, chances are, they'll subscribe.

what about with a fanpage? A co-worker of mine and I have made a review page and we r collaborating on it to put input and blog posts have 9 fans (woo hoo :-/ haha )

Well, one of my very big pet peeves is when I subscribe to a channel that has very few subscribers and I comment on their videos and they never reply. It's like seriously? C'mon, you have like 10 subscribers and you can't take the time of day to respond to me? If you're kind to your viewers they will recommend you to other people and you will be able to gain subscribers that way.

Also do a couple videos that a lot of people search for on YT. Smokey eye tutorials, Celebrity inspired makeup tutorials, how to scrunch your hair, beach waves, Whats in my bag, etc. Nobody is going to find you if you ONLY do really unique stuff that nobody else does b/c nobody would think of going onto YT to search for that. That probably doesn't make sense to you, but it does in my mind. I just don't know how to transfer it into words properly haha.

And of course make video responses! I also find a lot of channels this way! If a guru starts a new tag, make a video response! Also, if somebody is hosting a contest that calls for video entries than make an entry! A lot of people will look through the video responses for the contest and if they like you then they will probably subscribe!

This website is a great way to get your name out there as well! Just don't over do it, you don't want to make yourself look desperate.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your channel! :)

You're already doing it: being active in an online community forum where you can find like-minded individuals willing to listen to what you have to say. =)

Whatever you do, DO NOT sub for a sub or even worse... flood forums begging for subscribers to up your stats for potential sponsorships! I've seen a few here and there, and to be quite frank, it's repulsive! I'm here to find like-minded individuals willing to share their experiences and thoughts on beauty, not to have to filter through numerous threads of people asking "How do I become the next YouTube sensation to make loads of $$$?"

Just post great content, be active, make friends and word will get around naturally. I'm surprised I even have as many followers as I do on Beautylish, and every day I find someone new that shares the same ideas enough to follow me, it brings a smile to my face. =)

By the way, the BEST way I've found to get people to your page is to find a question in which you can answer for someone, personalize an answer via blog/youtube video/picture tutorial/etc. and post it on your page. When people hear you've gone out of your way to answer a question for them, of COURSE they'll come and take a gander at what you made for them! I've received the most positive results from that. Good luck!  =D

I think it just takes time; I did my first real tutorial sometime in late 2009 and started uploading almost in 2010 on and off ( not consistent just like a video a month maybe) I recently started doing it way more often like last summer; it's been a year and I LOVE doing it! I have around 700-800 subscribers and I have so much fun interacting with them! I think you have to be doing it for the right reasons first off, do it because you LOVE makeup and fashion not to get subscribers! People see right through that =) I personally don't reply to sub for sub comments; i may have a lot less subscribers because of this than i could have had by now but you want an audience that actually watches your videos and interacts with you! Just be yourself, be honest and have fun!  =D
