Thank you! You are indeed very beautiful as well. I used a variety of colors, but I specifically created this look using urban decays naked palette. I did however, add a black gel liner as my base to enhance the black on my lids. Totally optional.

I hate to say this but actually both Dakota and Sarah are incorrect. Dakota, there's no such thing as a "light" smokey eye. It's a very specific technique, and "in dealing with techniques there is little to no room for personal preference" in the words of Jackie. And Sarah, what you described is a gradient eye, not a smokey eye. That's another very specific style of eyeshadow that is very different from a smokey eye.

That isn't a smokey eye, Emilie, that's what we would refer to as a "gradient;" a shift sideways from light to dark. A smokey eye would be a shift upwards from dark to light. Does that make sense?

Jackie could explain better, but here's what I do:
Apply the lightest shade from your brow bone to your crease
Apply a very dark shade of eyeliner to your lid, and blend around the edges.
Apply a midtoned shade to your crease, blend with the highlight until you can't see a clear divide between the two
Apply the darkest shade on your lid and blend into the crease shade
Make sure there are no harsh lines, and that you can't tell where one color stops and another starts.
That's what I do, anyway, and it seems to work for me.
